"The Fragrance of Sin" Chapter 4
Chapter 4: Clauses of Sin
Left standing alone in a pool of spilled champagne at the municipal opera house, Dominic Vance knew the war had officially begun. Twenty-four hours later, the heavy oak doors of the Vance Holding high-security boardroom clicked shut, sealing the two former lovers inside a suffocating fortress of glass and steel.
Dominic stood at the head of the long mahogany conference table, leaning forward on his knuckles with a predatory glare that could curdle blood. "You think you can waltz into my corporate headquarters with a French passport and dictate terms to the man who built this city, Eva?" he growled, his deep voice vibrating with suppressed fury.
Eva remained seated in the leather executive chair with posture so impeccably straight it seemed carved from crystal.
"You always underestimated anyone who didn't bow to your pathetic tantrums, Dominic, which is precisely why your holding company is currently bleeding millions by the hour," she replied smoothly, her amber eyes shimmering with cold amusement.
Dominic slammed a thick stack of emergency injunction files onto the wood, letting the heavy papers slide across the polished surface toward her. "If you try to execute a hostile takeover through the regulatory commissions, my legal team will bury your boutique fragrance corporation in lawsuits before the sun rises," he threatened, towering over her like a dark monolith.
Eva didn't even bother to glance down at the legal threats he had manufactured in panic.
"Your legal team is currently too busy trying to hide your offshore tax discrepancies from the federal police for you to pose any real threat to me," she countered, her voice carrying the lethality of a razor blade wrapped in silk.
Reaching deliberately into her structured Balmain handbag, Eva pulled out a set of draconian, binding contracts and tossed them carelessly onto the center of the table.
"Here are your only remaining options, Dominic, and they explicitly demand fifty-five percent profit-sharing and absolute operational control over your proprietary R&D labs," she announced, leaning back with effortless grace.
Dominic snatched the papers up, his sapphire-blue eyes scanning the clauses as a violent tremor shook his broad shoulders.
"Fifty-five percent and absolute control over my laboratories? You are asking me to hand over the literal soul of my empire on a silver platter," he hissed, his face flushing with a dangerous shade of crimson.
"I am not asking, Mr. Vance, I am executing a foreclosure on a debt you accumulated four years ago when you threw me out into the freezing rain," Eva stated, her voice dropping into an arctic whisper that cut straight through his defenses.
Blinded by a sudden, volatile cocktail of corporate rage and unquenchable carnal attraction, Dominic rounded the table in three long strides. He slammed his hands down on the armrests of her chair, trapping her fragile porcelain frame against the leather while his heavy breathing fanned hot against her cheek.

"You want my labs, and you want my blood, but we both know what you are really trying to conquer beneath that icy French exterior," Dominic murmured hoarsely, his gaze dropping involuntarily to her bruised burgundy lips.
Eva did not flinch, nor did she allow her breathing to accelerate by a single beat as his massive body pressed dangerously close to hers. Instead, she slowly raised her right foot, planting the razor-sharp heel of her stiletto directly against his knee with deliberate, crushing pressure.
"Step back before I break more than just your corporate contracts today, Dominic," Eva warned coldly, her amber gaze locking onto his dilated pupils with absolute fearlessness.
Dominic groaned softly, a twisted mixture of pain and desperate arousal flooding his veins as he stared down at the woman who held his beating heart in her palm.
"You always were the only creature on this earth capable of driving me completely insane without even touching me," he confessed, his voice cracking with raw, unadulterated need.
Slowly releasing her, Eva stood up to her full height, smoothing the fabric of her geometric black dress with maddening calmness. She reached into her pocket, withdrew a sleek titanium pen, and slid it neatly into the breast pocket of his bespoke charcoal suit.
"You have until midnight to sign your own execution order, Mr. Vance, or I will dismantle every last brick of this tower while you watch," Eva whispered, brushing her shoulder against his as she turned toward the exit.
Without looking back, Eva walked out of the boardroom with rhythmic, measured strides, her red-soled heels clicking against the marble floor like a countdown timer.
Dominic stood alone in the dim, echoing room, his fingers trembling as he pulled the titanium pen from his pocket and inhaled deeply the lingering metallic trace of her jasmine scent.

Madison Hale smiled for the cameras, then leaned closer. “You still had the nerve to show up?” Photographers crowded around them. Ethan froze beneath the wall of white roses. Claire didn’t look away. “I have nothing left to hide.” Madison glanced at Claire’s gown and laughed. “Pretty elegant for a woman who got dumped.” The entire red carpet went silent. Claire stepped forward. “And you accepted a man who came to you already used.” Madison’s smile vanished. “At least he chose me.” “Did he choose you, or did he just run toward whatever was easier?” Ethan suddenly moved between them, but Claire’s final words landed first. “A cheater doesn’t choose anyone. He just repeats his mistakes.” Camera flashes exploded. Furious, Madison ordered security to throw Claire out.
