"The Gilded Shackle" Chapter 3
Chapter 3:
The heavy oak doors of the private office had barely clicked shut behind Killian when the digital tablet on the desk flashed with a harsh reminder of her new reality.
A digital invitation, encrypted and unignorable, announced the annual Boston Conservatory Gala taking place that very evening at the grand waterfront ballroom.
"You are going to dress for the gala tonight, Aurelia, and you will stand by my side as my chosen date," Killian stated, walking back into the room with an air of absolute, unquestionable command.
Aurelia wiped the trace of blood from her lower lip with the back of her hand, glaring up at him from where she still knelt on the marble floor. "I am not your show pony to parade in front of the people who helped you steal my family's legacy."
Killian crouched down slightly, his ice-gray eyes narrowing as he gripped her chin with cold precision. "You are whatever I require you to be, and tonight you will wear the velvet handcuffs of high-society compliance."
True to his word, an hour later a team of silent stylists delivered a stunning, backless emerald-green silk gown that clung ruthlessly to her curves like liquid poison. When she stepped out of the dressing suite, her platinum blonde hair was swept up into an intricate, severe chignon that exposed the fragile line of her neck.
Killian stood waiting by the private elevator, impeccably dressed in a midnight-blue tuxedo that made him look every bit the ruthless corporate monarch. A dark, possessive flicker crossed his striking features as his gaze traced the daring neckline and shimmering fabric of her dress.
"The color matches the venom in your veins, Aurelia, though it does not hide the defiance in your eyes," Killian murmured, offering her his arm with a chillingly polite gesture.
"I would rather walk through glass barefoot than take your arm voluntarily," she hissed, refusing to move a single millimeter toward him.
"You can walk on my arm willingly, or you can be carried out in handcuffs while wearing flats; choose wisely," Killian replied smoothly, his patience wearing razor-thin.
Knowing resistance at that exact threshold was futile, Aurelia stiffly slid her hand through the crook of his arm, digging her fingernails sharply into his sleeve through the fine wool. The private elevator descended in absolute silence, carrying them down to the subterranean garage where a fleet of bulletproof vehicles awaited their command.
The ride to the waterfront ballroom passed without a single word spoken between them, the heavy tension inside the backseat of the Rolls-Royce thick enough to suffocate. When the vehicle finally slid to a halt beneath the dazzling crystal chandeliers of the grand entrance, flashbulbs immediately exploded like a wall of lightning against the tinted windows.
"Smile for the cameras, my sweet captive, and remember not to test my temper in front of the city's elite," Killian whispered near her ear, his breath hot and dangerous against her skin.

As the heavy door swung open, Killian stepped out first before turning to extend a large, gloved hand to help her navigate the low frame. Aurelia forced her face into a breathtaking, razor-sharp smile that masked the pure fury raging inside her chest.
The moment they stepped onto the red carpet, a deafening wave of camera shutters and whispered gossip rippled through the gathered crowd of journalists and socialites. Flashbulbs illuminated every sharp angle of Killian's commanding face and the elegant, emerald drape of Aurelia's posture.
"Look at her trying to play the lady after her family's total bankruptcy," a sharp, venomous voice cut through the murmur of the crowd near the champagne tower.
Aurelia froze slightly, her eyes snapping toward the source of the insult to find Vivian Vance standing amidst a cluster of wealthy socialites. Vivian wore a blinding white couture gown, her dark hair slicked back and a triumphant sneer curling across her painted lips.
"Some people simply do not know when they have been discarded like trash," Vivian continued loudly enough for half the ballroom to hear, swirling her champagne flute with malicious delight.
Killian instantly stepped forward to shield Aurelia, his jaw clenching as a lethal aura began to radiate from his broad shoulders. "Watch your tongue, Vivian, before you find your family's accounts frozen by morning."
Before Killian could step fully between them, Aurelia broke free from his side with lightning speed, her movements fueled by pure, unadulterated humiliation and rage. She snatched a full glass of golden champagne off a passing silver tray and marched straight up to the stunned socialite.
"You have confused me with someone who cares about your pathetic opinion, Vivian," Aurelia said clearly, her voice echoing across the sudden, breathless silence of the hall.
Without a second hesitation, Aurelia hurled the entire contents of the glass directly into Vivian's face, followed by smashing the empty crystal flute against a marble pillar. Shards of crystal rained down onto the polished floor as champagne dripped pathetically from Vivian's ruined makeup and designer dress.
Gasps echoed through the ballroom as the elite of Boston watched in absolute horror and disbelief at the sudden act of public violence. Vivian shrieked in absolute rage, stumbling backward into a waiter's cart as her pristine appearance was utterly ruined in a single second.
"You absolute bitch!" Vivian screamed, lunging forward with her manicured nails clawing straight toward Aurelia's face.
Before Vivian's fingers could even graze her skin, a massive hand shot out from behind, gripping Vivian's wrist with bone-crushing force. Killian stepped directly in front of Aurelia, his ice-gray eyes burning with a terrifying, apocalyptic fury that forced the socialite to stumble back in terror.
"If you ever speak her name again, Vivian, your family won't just lose their corporate standing; they will disappear from this city entirely," Killian growled, his voice carrying the weight of a death sentence.

Instead of dragging Aurelia away in anger as everyone expected, Killian slowly turned around and looked down at her with an expression of stunned, savage fascination. A slow, dark, and utterly feral smile spread across his handsome face as he realized just how dangerous his captive truly was.
"You just humiliated one of the most powerful heiresses in Boston in front of the entire elite," Killian whispered, his voice thick with a twisted, possessive pride that sent chills down her spine. "God, you are magnificent when you are vicious."
"I am not your entertainment, Killian," Aurelia shot back, her chest heaving as the adrenaline slowly began to fade from her veins.
Before she could retreat further into the crowd, a shadowy figure brushed past them near the arched exit of the ballroom. A tall man in a dark tuxedo slipped a folded, encrypted escape route card directly into the palm of her clutch before melting back into the sea of guests.
Aurelia's fingers tightened instantly around the secret card hidden inside her bag, a tiny spark of desperate hope igniting deep within her chest. Someone out there was watching, and someone was willing to help her slip through Killian's iron grip.
"Our evening here is finished," Killian announced coldly, looping his arm around her waist with unbreakable strength as he steered her toward the private exit.
The walk back to the waiting Rolls-Royce felt like marching toward her own execution under the watchful eyes of terrified onlookers. The moment the heavy armored doors slammed shut and locked from the inside, plunging them into private darkness, Killian struck.
He pinned her fragile body ruthlessly against the tinted glass window, his broad chest pressing her back with suffocating, possessive heat. His ice-gray eyes burned into hers through the dim cabin light, filled with a dangerous obsession that brooked no rivals.
"You are my public humiliation, Aurelia, and you belong entirely to me," Killian growled, his face inches from hers as his fingers tangled fiercely in her hair.
