"The Profiler's Broken Silence" Chapter 2
Clara hosted her sister’s funeral alone.
While she stood in mourning before the memorial tablet, she heard a familiar set of footsteps. A second later, Sebastian’s long arm pulled her into a cold, crisp embrace.
Sebastian buried his face in the crook of her neck, his voice low and heavy. "I’m sorry, Clara. I didn’t know your sister would take her own life. What do you want? Just tell me, and I’ll make it up to you."
Clara’s entire body went rigid. A deep sense of nausea surged from the back of her throat. With a face devoid of emotion, she wrenched herself out of his arms. "Get out. Don’t you dare show your face in front of my sister’s spirit."
Sensing her coldness, a flash of irritation crossed Sebastian’s eyes. He was about to speak when Luna’s laughter echoed from outside the doors.
Dressed in exquisite makeup, Luna skipped into the funeral hall, directing several workers to carry in dozens of pots of bright roses.
The jarring red stung Clara’s eyes. She clenched her fists. "Luna! What are you doing?"
Luna looked up with an innocent expression. "I’m bringing flowers for your sister. Sebastian picked these out for me personally from a French estate. Aren't they beautiful?"
Beautiful?
The daughter of her enemy had brought red roses to a funeral and was asking if they looked good.
Clara’s gaze turned icy. She pushed past the workers and kicked over several flower pots. The ceramic shattered across the floor, the loud crash startling Luna.
Tears immediately welled up in Luna’s eyes, looking utterly aggrieved. "Clara... I just thought your sister never saw such beautiful flowers while she was alive, so I brought them for her to see. Why are you being like this?"
The image of her sister’s young face flashed before Clara’s eyes.
That girl had truly loved flowers. She used to hold Clara’s hand and say that one day, she wanted to open a small florist shop and live a quiet, peaceful life.
She had been so close to stepping out of the shadows.
Just a little more, and she could have lived a full life.
"Clara! Luna meant well. You shouldn't trample on her kindness!"
Sebastian spoke up in a sharp rebuke. "Apologize to her. Now."
"Apologize? Fine." Clara walked toward Luna and suddenly raised her hand, delivering a brutal slap across her face.
Caught off guard, Luna was knocked to the ground by the sheer force of the blow.
Sebastian’s pupils contracted. He instinctively raised his palm to strike Clara back, but his wrist was caught in a iron grip by Clara.
She had spent seven years in the police force. Though she was a profiler, she had never slacked on her physical training. Sebastian found himself unable to move.
Clara looked at him calmly. "Sebastian, you already helped her kill my sister. Now you’re going to hit me for her too?"

Those eyes, which used to be overflowing with love for him, now held nothing but cold disappointment. Sebastian felt a sharp pang in his chest, and for a moment, he found himself speechless.
Clara let out a cold laugh and turned to Luna. "Miss Luna, do you think he can protect you forever? You know my character. The evidence is gone, but I can find it again. Even if it takes another seven years, I won't stop."
"My sister is already dead. There is no one left to threaten me with."
Luna froze, a flicker of genuine terror crossing her eyes. She grabbed the hem of Sebastian’s trousers. "Sebastian... does Clara still think my father is a killer? But he never did those things..."
"Of course he didn't. Don't worry, I'll protect you." Sebastian helped her up, his eyes full of heartache.
He spent a long moment comforting her with soft whispers before looking up to meet Clara’s gaze. "Tell me. What will it take for you to drop this?"
Clara said indifferently, "Impossible."
"Nothing in this world is impossible. If it seems so, it’s only because the price isn't high enough." Sebastian’s tone softened. "Just say the word, and I’ll give you anything. Be a good girl, Clara. Don't let this turn into a scorched-earth battle."
Clara almost laughed out loud.
Once, Sebastian had stood before her just like this, shielding her from every storm and ensuring her life was without worry.
He was still just as "devoted" as before—it was just that the person he was protecting had changed to Luna.
Clara stood still for a long time, suppressing the bitterness in her eyes. She reached into her bag, pulled out a document, and handed it to him.
Sebastian looked at it suspiciously. "What is this?"
Clara spoke nonchalantly. "An asset transfer agreement. Sign it, and I can look away from the Luna family for a while."
Sebastian’s brow relaxed slightly. He flipped open the document to sign. "See? This is how it should be. There’s no need to make such a scene over a few dead people..."
Beside him, Luna suddenly tugged at his sleeve and said pitifully, "Sebastian, my ankle hurts so much. I think I twisted it just now."
Sebastian frowned, scribbled his name carelessly on the agreement, and picked Luna up to carry her out.
Clara stood silently, watching their retreating figures. After a long time, she lowered her eyes to the document.
If Sebastian had looked closely, he would have seen that it was a divorce settlement.
But he hadn't bothered.
Clara remembered when he proposed. She had asked him, "Your estate is so vast. Aren't we going to sign a prenuptial agreement?"
Sebastian had flicked her forehead and laughed. "You’re already thinking about divorcing me? Let me tell you, that’s never going to happen!"
Now, he had signed the divorce papers with his own hand.
Clara felt nothing but irony.
took a photo of the signed agreement and sent it to the person in her contact list.
The reply came quickly: "Understood. Don't worry. After the one-month cooling-off period, you and he will no longer be husband and wife."
