"Burning Roses: The Captain’s Forbidden Night" Chapter 14

Chapter 14: Full Firepower and Total Breakup

"The child in your belly isn't Jasper’s. He has Azoospermia. He can't get any woman pregnant!"

Lynn froze, her pupils dilating as she stared at Jane in disbelief.

After a long silence, she shrieked, "You old hag, you’re lying! The Professor told me you’re the one who can’t lay an egg!"

Jane looked at the arrogant Lynn with a mix of sorrow and mockery. "When the medical results came back years ago, they showed he was the one who was infertile. I loved him too much. I knew how fragile his pride was, so I quietly altered the report. I thought we could be happy as a childless couple, but—"

Jane pulled a yellowed medical report from her pocket. Lynn grabbed it, and her head began to spin as she read the contents.

"Leave him," Jane said. Despite everything, she still hoped to mend things with Jasper. She planned to tell him the truth after Lynn was gone.

But she didn't expect that Lynn, now knowing the truth, would choose murder. Lynn stuffed the report into her bag and stared at the weak Jane with murderous insanity. If Jane died, Jasper would never know the truth about the baby.

Lynn grabbed the crystal ashtray and swung it at Jane’s head.

Because she was shaking with fear, the first blow wasn't fatal. Jane reached out to grab her. Lynn’s legs went weak, but then her boyfriend, Chen Wang, rushed in. He grabbed the ashtray and smashed it repeatedly into Jane’s head.

Afterward, Chen ransacked the bedroom, stealing Jane’s gold jewelry and a bottle of rose perfume.

"For you, babe. Your favorite," Chen said, handing her the perfume. In her panic, she dropped it. It shattered on the floor, soaking into the rug and Jane’s clothes.

As they prepared to flee, they heard footsteps. Jasper was home.

Lynn told Chen to hide. "Jasper cares about this baby. He’ll choose me over Jane."

And she was right. Jasper chose her—perhaps because, deep down, he had wanted Jane dead for a long time.

Leo sent officers to arrest Chen Wang. As Lynn was being escorted to the detention center, she crossed paths with Jasper, who was also being moved.

Jasper, who had been slumping, suddenly turned into a raging beast at the sight of her. "You bitch! You lied to me! You and your thug killed Jane! You made me lose my wife!"

Officers held him back as he tried to lung at Lynn.

Lynn glared at him with red eyes. "You’re no saint either!"

"I’m only like this because you seduced me! If not for you, I would never have hurt Jane! You destroyed us both!"

Clara happened to be passing by. Hearing Jasper’s words, she couldn't take it anymore. She unleashed her full fury.

"Jasper Xu, Lynn is a snake, but what kind of 'saint' are you? You are a lowlife, insecure 'Phoenix Man' to the core. Jane and her parents did ninety-nine good things for you, but the moment one thing didn't go your way, you felt they were looking down on you. You are a selfish, narcissistic piece of trash!"

"You couldn't keep it in your pants! When you were cheating, did you think about Jane’s kindness? It takes two to tango. If you weren't greedy for Lynn’s young body and desperate for a kid, could she have forced you? You want everything but give nothing—you're more disgusting than a maggot in a sewer!"

"Jane wanted to keep your dignity intact until the very end, and you wanted her dead. You’re a parasite who thinks he’s a king. Spend your next life as a beast, because you don't deserve to be human."

The hallway fell into a deathly silence after Clara’s outburst. The officers holding Jasper looked awkwardly at Leo. Leo glanced at Clara, who tilted her chin up defiantly. "What are you looking at? Is it illegal to yell at a scumbag?"

Leo: "..."

She can yell all she wants, but why is she looking at me like I’m a scumbag too?

Jasper was left speechless by the verbal assault. He truly was worse than an animal.

The case was closed. Clara promised her mother she’d come home for dinner, as her younger brother was returning from school. To save time, she took a newly opened highway.

Naturally, her car stalled. She tried several times, but the engine wouldn't turn over. She got out to check under the hood but couldn't see the problem. When she went back for her phone, it had died.

Clara slapped her forehead.

First the fight with Leo this morning, now a broken car and a dead phone. Just my luck.

Traffic on this new road was non-existent. Just as she was starting to worry, a black SUV appeared in the distance. Her eyes lit up and she waved frantically.

As the car slowed down, she saw the driver through the window.

Leo Sterling.

He was wearing sunglasses, looking cold and rugged. He had one hand on the wheel and the other resting on the window, holding a cigarette. He glanced at her but didn't look like he intended to stop.

Clara immediately stopped waving.

Cold-blooded jerk!

But then, the SUV backed up. The tall, rugged man stepped out. He hung his sunglasses on his collar and swept a dark gaze over her. "Car trouble?"

Clara looked away, ignoring him. Leo stared at her profile for a few seconds before walking over to her car. He checked the engine. "I can fix it."

Clara: "..."

Fine. For the sake of the car, I’ll call a truce.

"I'll pay you for the repair."

Leo narrowed his eyes at her and clicked his tongue against his teeth. "You really love giving people money, don't you?"

Clara realized he was referencing the "payment" she offered after their one-night stand. "Of course. I don't like owing people."

Leo said nothing. He grabbed a toolbox from his trunk, dangled the cigarette from his lips, and leaned over to work on the car. Clara stood beside him, her eyes wandering.

He was wearing a black T-shirt. As he leaned over, the fabric stretched over his powerful shoulders and arm muscles. He was built broad and strong, radiating a raw, masculine energy.

Clara’s gaze drifted to his backside.

Not bad. Quite firm.

Her palms felt an itch—she almost wanted to give him a slap.

Sensing her shameless gaze, Leo crushed his cigarette and glanced at her. "What are you looking at?"

"None of your business."

Leo’s lips tightened. Clara’s eyes moved to his large hands, stained with oil. They were long, powerful, and veins traced over the backs of them. They say if a man has big hands... then

that

part is also big. The rumors seemed true.

"Forensic Ye, check your gaze. I’m afraid you won't be able to resist jumping me."

Clara’s throat moved. She smirked. "Believe me, if I did jump you, your 'little brother' would show me immediate respect."

Leo’s jaw tightened. "Are you even a woman?"

Clara: "If I weren't, would you have slept with me over and over that night?"

Leo: "..."

Whatever. I saw how scary her tongue was today when she destroyed Jasper Xu. I’m not winning this one.
