"The Silver Cross: My Angel, My Monster" Chapter 66
Chapter 66: Magical Creatures
More than a thousand years ago, when Selene was still the Director of the Inquisition—full of vigor and at the peak of her brilliance—the most cliché story possible unfolded: a righteous Exorcist fell in love with a white fox of the demon race. For an Exorcist to love a magical creature was naturally intolerable to the Inquisition, and thus, she fell into the demonic path.
My mouth hung open as I listened to him tell the story. Though hearing such a world-weary tale from the mouth of a little furball of a pet like Snowy was somewhat comical, I couldn't bring myself to laugh.
"White's obsession with finding the Daywalker's Blood by any means necessary was also because of me."
"Oh?"
"Because she betrayed the Inquisition, the elders placed a curse on her, transforming her into a vampire who can only appear in the darkness. Meanwhile, I can only transform into human form during the day."
Uh... wouldn't that mean they could never see each other?
Those old men at the Inquisition were truly...
"Then you... why did you become a member of the Kindred?"
"To stop White from frantically searching for the Daywalker's Blood, I transformed into her kind. I was willing to stay with her in the darkness forever... but just as I turned into a vampire, I found her wounded and reverted to a juvenile state..."
As I listened, a faint mist unconsciously clouded my eyes, condensing into crystal tears that slid down my cheeks.
Those were Selene's tears.
Stated now, it was only a few simple sentences, yet it represented a thousand years of their agony.
"I won't let you go to your death," pet Snowy looked at me, his voice as cold as ice. "I won't."
I hung my head. "Or... could we try to separate Selene from my body?"
"Do you have a way?" Pet Snowy narrowed his eyes and glared at me.
"For now... no," I answered dejectedly.
"Hmph."
"Forget it, forget it. Just turn into your human form and put your clothes back on," I said weakly, waving my hand. I didn't want to wake up one day to such a suggestive scene again; I’d get sties in my eyes.
If that happened... I would be the first vampire in history to grow a sty.
"My vital energy is insufficient; I cannot maintain human form." Pet Snowy wagged his short tail.
So that was the truth behind why he constantly turned into a little furball! I gave a mischievous snicker. "Does that mean... you have to stay in this form for the time being?"
Pet Snowy shot me a wary look. "What are you planning?"
I chuckled, pinching his furry ears. "Nothing, you're just very cute like this..."
This way, I wouldn't have to worry about him snitching to Alastor and the others. As long as I could find a way to separate Selene from my body, everything would be resolved.

Everything... would be resolved.
Having made up my mind, I picked up Snowy and opened the door to leave the room.
Just as I reached the doorway, I heard a faint scream.
Startled, I rushed downstairs.
"What happened!"
"The sound came from outside," Yang Weisheng said tonelessly, sipping his coffee with such composure it was as if the sky falling would have nothing to do with him.
"Ah! Help!..." The voice screamed again.
"It's Kaan!" I pricked up my ears. It was Kaan Tung from the tailor shop next door!
Usan had already charged out like an arrow.
I hurriedly chased after him.
At the entrance, I saw a monster covered in flames, hissing and spitting heat as it pinned Kaan Tung to the ground.
People on the street were fleeing in panic.
Kaan Tung lay on the ground, her face deathly pale and devoid of color.
Usan pursed his lips. He immediately drew his bow and notched an arrow, slowly pulling the string. With a whoosh, the arrow flew.
A direct hit! Cool as hell.
The monster roared in pain, released Kaan Tung, and lunged at Usan instead.
Usan glanced at Kaan Tung, who was lying on the ground covered in blood, and met the monster head-on without dodging. His slender fingers transformed into sharp claws as he wrestled with the beast.
I stood still, watching Usan who had already shifted into his wolf form. The Wolf King was clearly no joke; you need capital to be that cocky. Before long, the monster was howling and scurrying away, vanishing into thin air.
I watched the direction where the creature disappeared thoughtfully. It had vanished exactly like the one I had encountered.
Where did they come from? Why were they appearing in the human realm?
The Wolf King defeated the monster and turned back to Kaan Tung, looking at her.
Pale-faced Kaan Tung stared blankly at the Wolf King, her eyes rolled back, and she fainted. At the moment she lost consciousness, Usan reverted to human form and picked her up.
"Should we erase her memory?" Having cast a healing spell, I stood by the bed looking at Kaan Tung and suggested.
"No need." It was Usan who spoke. He stood by the window, a half-smile on his face. "Let her remember my form, so she'll never dare to pester me again."
I remained silent. Another one stubborn to a fault. He clearly cared, as he had been more frantic than anyone to save her just now.
The beauty on the bed let out a soft moan and slowly opened her eyes.
Her large eyes darted around and fixed on Usan. Kaan Tung stared at him blankly.
With a cold sneer on his lips, Usan walked over to her side with an arrogant air. Looking at that punchable smile, I knew he was determined to go for broke and scare the lady away.

Kaan Tung stared at Usan, watching him approach without even blinking.
"Got something to say?" Usan tilted his chin with a mocking expression, seemingly certain that Kaan Tung would avoid him like the plague after seeing his true form.
Kaan Tung blinked, and suddenly leaned forward, grabbing Usan's arm. "Usan, you're such a hero..."
Everyone turned to stone...
"Where are your eyes! Didn't you see that I'm not human!" Usan roared in exasperation.
"So what?" Kaan Tung blinked.
"I am seven hundred and sixty-one years old!"
"Really?" Kaan Tung’s eyes lit up. "That’s so cool!"
"Aren't you afraid I'll eat you?" Narrowing his eyes, Usan put on a sinister look.
Kaan Tung's eyes sparkled. "You wouldn't have the heart to..."
Looking at Usan’s twitching face, I finally couldn't hold it back and burst into laughter, earning a furious glare from him.
From then on, Usan gained a little follower, though he never gave her a friendly look.
"Usan, Usan, try on the jacket I made for you..."
"No."
"Usan, Usan, try on the shirt I made for you..."
"Go away."
"Usan, Usan, try on the pants I made for you..."
"What are you trying to take off..." Usan's brow jumped as he looked coldly at Kaan Tung, who was crouching on the floor.
"Uh..." Kaan Tung’s face turned red as an apple.
"Stop pestering me."
"You’re my savior; I have to offer myself to you in return..."
"You..."
"Age isn't a problem, race isn't a barrier, loving you is the only truth..."
Everyone collapsed.
Incidents like this became a common occurrence at the Splendid Candy House.
The monster attacks did not end there. Similar reports appeared all over City A. For a time, panic spread, and business at the candy house plummeted.
After all, compared to looking at handsome men, staying alive was more important.
I sat at the counter holding Snowy and dazing off. Kaan Tung pestered Usan with chatter, Yang Weisheng drank coffee at the bar, and Alastor, Little Mountain, and Orlando were huddled over a game of Mahjong.
"These monsters that have been appearing lately... they're strange." I glanced at Yang Weisheng, hoping the Great Demon King might offer some insight.
"I've seen them before," Yang Weisheng spoke plainly.
The Great Demon King was indeed the Great Demon King, never failing expectations. My eyes lit up, and I nodded vigorously, waiting for the rest.
"...In the primordial era," Yang Weisheng said, taking a composed sip of his coffee.
"What?!" I was stunned.
Monsters from the primordial era... how could they appear in City A?
"Back then, I personally sealed them and sank them to the bottom of a lake."
"What lake?"
"I don't remember..."
I got angry. "How could you not remember something so important!"
"You even forgot me; what is there that I cannot forget?" Yang Weisheng glanced at me and spoke gloomily.
I immediately felt guilty, instantly shrinking back. Stroking Snowy, I was surprised to see that another tail had actually grown out.
He's developing so fast...
I tugged on Snowy's tail, filled with resentment.
With a loud bang, I closed my eyes. Here we go again.
Though those monsters were wreaking havoc all over City A, they seemed to particularly enjoy visiting the Splendid Candy House, and they grew stronger with each visit.
Before I could even act, Little Mountain had already neatly finished off the monster. Alastor fixed the shop, Kaan Tung sat in her seat continuing to chat with Usan without even looking up.
I was speechless; everyone had actually gotten used to it.

Rain hammered against the stone steps of St. Mary’s Cathedral. Mia Clarke backed away instinctively. One step. Then another. Until the cold stone hit her spine and there was nowhere left to go. The convoy had arrived less than thirty seconds ago. Black SUV. Headlights flooding the churchyard. Men in dark suits moving with military precision. And in the middle of all of it— him. Damien Lancaster stepped out of the car like violence wearing a tailored coat. He was devastatingly beautiful. That was the worst part. His looks weren't safe; his charm wasn't human. He was beautiful the way a loaded gun was beautiful: cold, polished, lethal. The priest tried to shield her. Two men pulled him aside instantly. Damien never even looked at them. His eyes stayed locked on Mia the entire time. She felt a sick twist in her stomach—she realized he was furious. Not a loud fury. Not rage. Something quieter. Something infinitely worse. It was the silence of a decision already made. In that quiet, he had already decided the fate of everyone here. “Mia.” Her name left his mouth softly. Almost gently. It frightened her more than a shout ever could. She turned to run. He caught her before she cleared the last step. One hand clamped around her wrist. The other dragged her hard against his chest. No hesitation. No softness. He smelled like rain, menthol smoke, and expensive whiskey. “Mia,” he repeated near her ear, his voice low enough that only she could hear it, “did you really think you could disappear from me?” She pushed against his chest with everything she had. “Let go of me.” That finally made him smile. Slowly. Beautifully. Wrong. “You vanished for eleven days,” he said quietly. “I stopped sleeping on day three.” The church bells rang overhead. Nobody moved. His men didn't even dare to breathe. Damien lowered his head slightly, forehead nearly touching hers. And in that terrifyingly intimate moment— she understood something too late. This man was not trying to win her back. He already believed she belonged to him. Forever.Dark Humor|Mutual Pining|Plot Twist|Yandere|Instant Marriage|Possessive Love|Redemption Arc|Sweet Romance|HE20.7k words5 0 -
