"The Billionaire Can Read My Mind: My Runaway Wife is a Mystic" Chapter 23
Chapter 23: Asking for Her WeChat
Sebastian North was certain he hadn't seen Seren Thorne open her mouth, yet her voice continued to stream into his ears without pause...
His eyes narrowed slightly as he began walking toward her.
Seren noticed him approaching as well. Looking at his handsome face, she couldn't help but offer a compliment in her head:
{So this is what they mean in novels by a face "carved by a chisel." Those facial lines are so sharp; he really is quite handsome.}
Hearing Seren's inner thoughts, Alaric Vane felt as though his head was turning a vivid shade of green. His expression went as dark as stagnant water.
Could this woman not see her own husband's excellence? What was the point of constantly praising someone else's partner?
Sensing the low pressure radiating from his cousin, Jasper Vane silently backed away. When the gods fought, he didn't want to be the mortal caught in the crossfire.
"Sorry to disturb you," Sebastian said as he reached the group. His gaze first swept over Alaric as a silent greeting before settling on Seren.
"Mrs. Vane, I heard the Vane family is preparing a new drama recently. I have some interest in it; I wonder if I might have the honor of participating as an investor?"
Seren hadn't expected him to strike up a conversation with her. Slightly surprised, she said, "I'm sorry, my parents never let me meddle in their business affairs. I'm not very clear on what you're referring to, but if you're interested, you can contact them directly."
Sebastian replied, "I don't have their contact information. Would it be convenient for you to add me, Mrs. Vane, and push their contact details to me?"
"Sure." The male and female leads were the center of this world, after all. Seren was naturally happy to build a good relationship with them.
She was just about to take out her phone when she heard Alaric's deep voice beside her: "There's no need for such trouble. I have my parents-in-law's contact information as well. I'll send it to President North later."
"It's no trouble at all, takes just a second," Seren said, already pulling out her phone and exchanging WeChat with Sebastian.
Alaric watched with a dark face as the two exchanged contact info. Seren remained completely oblivious, her heart bubbling with cheer.
{Now that I have the male lead's contact, I can get some updates on how far along the leads are in their progress.}
{If Alaric gets jealous and starts committing arson or murder for the heroine, I can get the news early and have Grandpa stop him, saving him from being sent to Myanmar to have his parts harvested.}
Upon hearing this, Alaric's expression softened slightly. At least this woman has a bit of a conscience and knows how to worry about me.
However, in the next moment: {Even if a dog man like Alaric kicks the bucket, it doesn't matter, but he can't be allowed to drag Jasper down with him. Otherwise, I'll have nowhere to earn my living expenses after the divorce.}

{A high-paying job of five hundred thousand a month, and I only have to work every few days... where else could I find such a great gig?}
Alaric’s face darkened once again.
Jasper watched from the side, marveling at the sight. It was the first time he had seen his brother's expressions be so rich—it was like a Sichuan Opera face-changing act.
After the exchange, Seren wanted to chat with the male lead for a bit longer, but she was directly hoisted away by Alaric.
Jasmine Jia asked Sebastian, "Sebastian, didn't you say you'd never step foot into the entertainment industry? Why are you suddenly interested in this?"
"The internet market is nearly saturated; it's time to expand business appropriately," Sebastian dismissed her with a few casual words. He then sent a message ordering his subordinates to find out exactly who it was that had saved him that night.
If Jasmine Jia had truly lied to him...
Sebastian shot a cold glance at Jasmine, his eyes icy.
On the way back to the Vane manor, Alaric kept a dark, stony face. Jasper, sitting in the front, didn't even dare to breathe. Seren, however, had long grown used to Alaric’s sour attitude and didn't pay him any mind. She focused entirely on her phone, scrolling through the male lead's social media feed.
{I thought the male lead's feed would be full of official corporate updates like in other CEO novels, but it's actually all daily life.}
{Piano, fencing, martial arts... tsk, as expected of a male lead. Even with such a busy work schedule, he has time to develop so many hobbies.}
{Does the male lead go to the swimming pool every week? No wonder he keeps his figure so well. Those pecs, those abs... hiss... the heroine is eating really well, woohoo.}
Seren scrolled through the male lead's feed the whole way home, praising him the entire time.
When they arrived, Alaric got out of the car, and before Seren could follow, he slammed the door shut.
Seren finally realized he was in a bad mood and asked in confusion, "Who provoked him now?"
Jasper thought: Who else? You. But he didn't say it out loud; after all, he still had to keep the secret of hearing her heart.
Seren didn't notice anything wrong. After all, out of 365 days, Alaric might only be in a good mood for one or two. She didn't take it to heart.
Entering the villa, she went straight back to the guest bedroom to scroll through her phone. In her past life, she had been so busy just trying to get a meal that she couldn't even afford a smartphone. Now, holding the original host's tri-fold phone, she was full of interest, playing with it from morning till night without getting bored.
She stayed cooped up in her room until 6:00 PM when there was a sudden knock on the door. She thought it was Mrs. Gable coming to call her for dinner, but when she opened the door, she found Alaric standing there.

The man was wrapped only in a bath towel, revealing his perfectly muscled upper body. His hair was still damp, looking as though he had just finished showering.
Seren asked, "What are you here for?"
Alaric said, "The body wash in the master bedroom is out. I came to get yours."
"Oh." Seren stepped aside to let him in.
Alaric went into the bathroom, took the body wash, and came out. After he reached the door, Seren prepared to close it. However, she saw him suddenly stop at the threshold.
Seren was puzzled. "Do you have something else to say?"
Alaric’s dark eyes stared at her without blinking. "You see me like this, and you have nothing to say?"
This woman had clearly praised Sebastian North's figure in the car. He believed he didn't fall short of Sebastian in any way; did she really have no thoughts seeing him like this?
Seren thought for a moment and said, "Actually, I do have something I want to say to you."
Alaric's mood lifted just a tiny bit. "Speak."
Seren said, "Next time, don't just run around the house half-naked. It’s an eyesore. People who don't know better might think you have an exhibitionist streak."
Alaric: "..."
He gritted his teeth. "Thanks for the reminder."
"Don't mention it," Seren waved her hand. "Maintaining public decency is everyone's responsibility."
Alaric’s eyes went sinister as he turned and left.
When she saw him again at dinner, the man still had a sour face. Grandpa Vane had sent the young couple to the engagement party intending to create an opportunity for them to reconcile, but it seemed their relationship had only worsened.
Grandpa was contemplating whether he should just knock his grandson unconscious and send him directly to his granddaughter-in-law's bed. They say couples fight at the head of the bed and make up at the foot; they had been sleeping apart for over a week, and after so much abstinence, wouldn't they spark like dry wood and fire the moment they lay together? A bit of physical contact might just fix everything.
However, before Grandpa could implement his plan, two uninvited guests arrived at the house.

Owned by the Devil
Rain hammered against the stone steps of St. Mary’s Cathedral. Mia Clarke backed away instinctively. One step. Then another. Until the cold stone hit her spine and there was nowhere left to go. The convoy had arrived less than thirty seconds ago. Black SUV. Headlights flooding the churchyard. Men in dark suits moving with military precision. And in the middle of all of it— him. Damien Lancaster stepped out of the car like violence wearing a tailored coat. He was devastatingly beautiful. That was the worst part. His looks weren't safe; his charm wasn't human. He was beautiful the way a loaded gun was beautiful: cold, polished, lethal. The priest tried to shield her. Two men pulled him aside instantly. Damien never even looked at them. His eyes stayed locked on Mia the entire time. She felt a sick twist in her stomach—she realized he was furious. Not a loud fury. Not rage. Something quieter. Something infinitely worse. It was the silence of a decision already made. In that quiet, he had already decided the fate of everyone here. “Mia.” Her name left his mouth softly. Almost gently. It frightened her more than a shout ever could. She turned to run. He caught her before she cleared the last step. One hand clamped around her wrist. The other dragged her hard against his chest. No hesitation. No softness. He smelled like rain, menthol smoke, and expensive whiskey. “Mia,” he repeated near her ear, his voice low enough that only she could hear it, “did you really think you could disappear from me?” She pushed against his chest with everything she had. “Let go of me.” That finally made him smile. Slowly. Beautifully. Wrong. “You vanished for eleven days,” he said quietly. “I stopped sleeping on day three.” The church bells rang overhead. Nobody moved. His men didn't even dare to breathe. Damien lowered his head slightly, forehead nearly touching hers. And in that terrifyingly intimate moment— she understood something too late. This man was not trying to win her back. He already believed she belonged to him. Forever.Dark Humor|Mutual Pining|Plot Twist|Yandere|Instant Marriage|Possessive Love|Redemption Arc|Sweet Romance|HE73.7k words5 36 -
