"Goodbye, My Cold Husband: Reborn to Hate You" Chapter 18

"Luke, in your eyes, what kind of person am I?"

Seeing her answer his question with another, Luke calmly took a sip of his coffee. To be honest, he had previously only heard her name without seeing the person, but he had heard many rumors saying that Luna was a woman who was bad to the core.

Chapter 40: But I Was Caught

She didn't know what means she had used to get Grandpa Arthur to give her the shares; shortly after, Grandpa Arthur died.

And at the height of the controversy, she had the audacity to appear with the shares and demand that Gideon marry her, otherwise the family shares would fall into someone else's hands.

There were also rumors that she had caused the deaths of her adoptive parents to obtain their inheritance, that she moved between multiple men... and various other acts of misconduct.

But the Ugly Duckling Luke knew wasn't like that. He cleared his throat and looked away. "Then what kind of person should you be?"

Luna smiled and looked up at him. "If I said that all your previous perceptions of me were wrong, would you believe me?"

Luke’s expression was complicated, and he didn't speak for a moment.

Actually, those were all just things he had heard. The real reason he hated Luna was because of her suicide attempt six months ago.

He had never seen Gideon like that before...

Luke was unwilling to reminisce, and after a moment, he said, "Then tell me, which parts are wrong?"

Luna pursed her lips and spoke unhurriedly. "First, the reason I married Gideon was not because I coveted the family property, nor did I cause Grandpa Arthur’s death. Second, everything Serena said is a lie. Third, I want to talk to you about the car accident back then. I guarantee that if even half a sentence of what I say is fabricated, may I die a horrible death."

...

The sky gradually darkened, and the cold wind was bone-chilling.

Luna pushed open the front door to find the room cold and silent, without a hint of life.

She turned on the hallway light and took a few steps inside. Just as she was about to check the fridge for food, she caught sight of someone sitting on the sofa.

Gideon’s eyes were lightly closed, and he gave no reaction.

How... did he come back?

Luna lightened her breathing, as if afraid of disturbing him. She tiptoed over, and just as she picked up a small blanket to cover him, the man on the sofa suddenly snapped his eyes open. He gripped her hand, which was still suspended in mid-air, with great force. His dark eyes were full of coldness. "What are you doing?"

"I wanted to steal a kiss, but I was caught." Luna met his gaze, no longer showing the timid humility of a long time ago, nor the posture of being lower than the dust.

Gideon couldn't help but frown, his movements pausing. Luna quickly withdrew her hand and asked, "Have you eaten? I'll cook for you. If you don't want to eat, it's fine; I'll just order takeout for myself."

"..."

Gideon glanced at her, his voice icy. "Why did you go looking for Luke today?"

"If I don't tell you, will you divorce me?"

Gideon remained silent, his expression darkening a few shades.

Luna smiled. "That's fine then. I'm going to cook. If you want to show some respect, have a few bites; if you're not willing, I won't stop you."

She went into the kitchen and soon brought out two bowls of noodles.

To her surprise, Gideon hadn't left. Instead, he was sitting at the dining table, deep in thought. Seeing her come out, he spoke in a flat tone, "You went to great lengths to marry me. Jumping off a building isn't something you would actually do. What exactly is your objective?"

Luna wasn't angry. She simply placed the bowl in front of him and sat down, saying calmly, "Gideon, the cabinet by my bed is full of anti-depressants. Oh, I forgot—you never enter my room, so naturally, you wouldn't see those things. You also never believed that I only wanted to marry you because I loved you."

"Are you worth my trust?"

"Gideon, can you tell me what the person you love is like?"

Chapter 41: Sleep on the Bed

His expression suddenly turned cold, his eyes full of chilliness.

Luna stopped asking and simply lowered her head to eat her noodles, ignoring the world around her.

After a moment, Gideon suddenly stood up. Luna thought he was leaving, but to her surprise, he turned and went up to the second floor.

The noodles on the table hadn't been touched at all.

Luna licked her lips, put down her chopsticks, and busied herself in the kitchen for a while before carrying a bowl upstairs. To her even greater surprise, Gideon wasn't in the study but in the bedroom's bathroom.

She placed the bowl on the coffee table. When the sound of water stopped, she walked over, turned the handle, and spoke expressionlessly: "I made some steamed egg custard. Eat it if you're hungry... Why do you have so many injuries on your body?"

Because of her sudden intrusion, Gideon had only managed to wrap a towel around his waist. Stitch marks appeared on his shoulders, abdomen, and several other places. Moreover, these wounds didn't look old; they seemed to have appeared recently.

Luna frowned deeply. In that other life, she had seen Gideon’s body; although there were some scars, none were as shocking as the ones before her.

How exactly did these happen?

Facing her unshielded gaze, Gideon’s eyes turned cold. "Get out."

Luna moved her lips, wanting to ask something, but after catching the impatience in his dark eyes, she held back. She closed the door and retreated to the sofa, looking at the bowl of egg custard, her heart aching.

A few minutes later, when Gideon emerged, he had changed into loungewear, and the wounds on his body were hidden away.

Luna gave him a big smile. "The egg custard is going to get cold soon. Will you eat it?"

Gideon looked at her and didn't speak.

However, his long legs moved as he walked to the sofa and sat down, picking up the bowl and eating it mouthful by mouthful.

Luna propped her chin on her hand and watched him for a while before saying, "Gideon, why do you hate me so much?"

He put down the bowl, his voice cold. "Don't you know what you've done yourself?"

"I don't. Why don't you tell me?"

Gideon’s handsome brows furrowed slightly. He looked up and glanced at her, catching her curved eyes. His heart suddenly skipped a beat, and he looked away. "You still haven't answered me about why you went to see Luke today."

Luna arched an eyebrow. "It's late. You should sleep. I'm going to the study."

He spoke coldly, "What are you going to do in the study?"

"Don't you hate me and are unwilling to be with me? Since you rarely come back, I’ll act as half a host and give the bed to the guest."

Gideon’s temple throbbed twice. He pursed his thin lips and spoke without much emotion: "Sleep on the bed."

"All right then." Luna didn't argue. She skipped over to the bed and lay down. Just as she was thinking about something, the mattress beside her sank.

Gideon lay down with his back to her.

This seemed to be the first time in this life that they had spoken so much, and the first time they had lain in the same bed.

Luna was very happy.

Although Gideon was still as cold and taciturn as before, he seemed to have gained a trace of human warmth.

At least she wouldn't wake up here alone tomorrow morning.

Listening to the even breathing coming from behind her, Luna closed her eyes. She had to get to sleep quickly; tomorrow, there was a tough battle to be fought.

In the previous life, it was Serena who couldn't stay calm and came looking for her, revealing a flaw. But in this life, she was hiding herself extremely well. Getting her to admit it herself was going to be quite tricky.

After an unknown amount of time, Gideon slowly opened his eyes. His dark gaze was full of silence.

Luna, what exactly are you thinking?

Chapter 42: The Truth Back Then

The next day.

Standing outside the private room, Luke was somewhat hesitant. But remembering the words he had heard yesterday, he gritted his teeth and looked at the person beside him. "Luna, I’m trusting you this time. I hope you don't let me down."

"Don't worry, I won't do anything to her." After giving him a reassuring look, Luna reached out and pushed the door open.

Serena was sitting cross-legged at the small table, having just poured a cup of floral tea. When she looked up and saw who had arrived, her pupils contracted slightly. The emotion in her eyes was instantly hidden as she smiled and said softly, "Didn't Luke invite me here? Where did he go?"
