"Goodbye, My Cold Husband: Reborn to Hate You" Chapter 22

She let out a light laugh, tucked her hair behind her ear, and spoke carelessly, "Yes, it was. What of it?"

She hadn't expected her to admit it so readily. She gritted her teeth and clenched her fists.

"By the way, you probably don't know yet, but he knows about it too. Yet, do you see him doing anything to me? I'm still perfectly fine. So stop struggling. He hates you simply because you are you; it has nothing to do with the car accident from years ago."

As Serena spoke, her smile grew wider. "Let me tell you one more thing. I’m pregnant. You should be clear about whose child it is. He told me that the only reason he doesn't divorce you is because of the shares in your hand. But... as time goes on, do you think you can keep your position as his wife?"

After saying that, she simply glanced at her and turned to leave.

With a husband who won't even come home, how can you compete with me?

The midday sun was just right, its golden light casting down and dispersing the chill on the ground.

The passing pedestrians were all smiling.

After an unknown amount of time, she also let out a laugh.

Maybe she was wrong to think that he would never change. But she had forgotten that her rebirth was three years ago, and now it was three years later.

Three years isn't long, but it isn't short either.

It’s enough for many things to happen, and enough for him to fall in love with someone else.

Since returning after her rebirth, she had been desperate to uncover the truth. But she had forgotten that if the truth isn't cared about by anyone, it loses all meaning.

With a "vicious and scheming" woman like her occupying the position, and a gentle, considerate "White Moonlight" like Serena by his side, his choice was predictable.

Perhaps her obsession was too deep, and having died with so much resentment, she always thought she could salvage something.

But what's missed is missed; no amount of effort can fix it.

But that’s okay; at least she once possessed his love.

She had no regrets.

Maybe this was fate; there was no use forcing it.

Chapter 50: Divorce Agreement

By the time she returned with the lunch, Luke was so hungry his stomach was sticking to his back and his eyes were hollow. The moment he saw her enter, he sat up as if he'd been given a shot of adrenaline. "I thought you'd run off with some handsome guy on the way! It’s a few minutes' walk and you took an hour."

She couldn't be bothered with him. She handed him the food container and sat on the chair by the bed. After thinking for a while with her chin in her hands, she suddenly spoke: "Luke, let's elope."

Pfft—

Luke spat out half of the delicious food in his mouth. He grabbed a water glass and took a few gulps before catching his breath. "Sister, do you have to bring up such a shocking topic while I’m eating?"

She smiled innocently. "I was just saying. Don't take it seriously."

"..." Luke's teeth itched with annoyance.

"You eat. I'm leaving."

Looking at her somewhat lonely back, Luke was completely confused. She just went out to buy food; why did she look like a frost-bitten eggplant?

Luke shook his head, made a couple of clicking sounds, and lowered his head to eat.

...

The large room was silent.

She sat on the bed and looked at the room she had stayed in for three years. The corners of her lips curled slightly into a faint smile.

The Gideon of that other life was hers, but in this life, he wasn't.

It was time for her to let go.

She folded her clothes one by one into her suitcase. She didn't have much; it fit easily into a single suitcase.

This place held three years of her time.

She let out a sigh. Just as she was about to leave, she suddenly remembered something. She ran to the wardrobe and dug out an ugly doll from the very bottom, holding it in her arms.

She had placed it there like a treasure when she moved in three years ago, but as time passed, she had actually forgotten about it.

Let this be the final memento.

Before she left, she placed a divorce agreement on the coffee table in the living room.

Her nearly twenty years of unrequited love finally came to a complete end.

Gideon, I wish you happiness.

Walking on the street, she looked at the couples holding hands and playing. She smiled but didn't stay, picking up her pace to leave.

Actually, this wasn't bad.

At least that memory belonged only to her; no one could take it away.

She took a few steps when two men suddenly rushed out from the side, covered her mouth and nose with a cloth, and quickly dragged her into a van parked in the alley.

The ugly doll in her arms fell silently.

When Gideon returned, the clock on the wall pointed exactly to twelve.

He loosened his tie, and just as he sat on the sofa, he saw the papers on the coffee table. His dark eyes constricted sharply, his expression turning cold to the extreme.

He stood up abruptly and dialed a number. "Where is she?"

Xavier on the other end paused before saying quickly, "The subordinates followed her from the hospital, and after seeing her arrive home safely, they withdrew..."

Gideon put away his phone and strode out the door.

In the hospital ward.

Luke was boredly flipping through a magazine when the door was kicked open. He nearly jumped out of his skin. Before he could complain, he heard the visitor's cold, emotionless voice: "Where did she go?"

"..." Luke's mouth twitched violently. "You're asking me about your wife's whereabouts?"

A layer of frost covered Gideon’s dark eyes, hiding his anger. "Where is she?"

"She went home." Luke frowned, sensing something was wrong. "She told me she was going home. Did something happen?"

Chapter 51: Stubborn as a Rock

"She signed the divorce agreement." Gideon turned to leave, but Luke called out to him, "If you're so worried about her, why do you hardly ever go home?"

"I warned you to stay away from her."

"Gideon, have you ever actually looked clearly into your own heart? If you love her, treat her well. What’s with this constant coldness? If you don't love her and she’s given you the signed divorce papers, shouldn't you be happy? Where she goes has nothing to do with you anymore."

Gideon’s hands clenched into fists at his sides, but in the end, he said nothing and walked away quickly.

"Truly a stone in a latrine—stinking and stubborn!"

After muttering a curse, Luke threw off his blanket and limped out of bed. These two were going to torture him to death before they were satisfied.

Just as Gideon reached the hospital entrance, Xavier rushed over and handed him something. "Sir, we found the Madam's last tracks on the surveillance cameras near the west side of the city. Something must have happened; only her suitcase and this doll were left at the scene."

Under the lights, the ugly doll’s smile remained unchanged, as if silently mocking his stupidity.

The moment Gideon’s eyes landed on the doll, his pupils constricted and his face turned pale. His voice sounded as if it were laced with a blizzard: "Where is Serena?"

"We've had people following her, but this time with the Madam... it doesn't seem to be her doing."

Gideon snatched the doll from his hand and strode into the car.

The black sedan shot off like an arrow from a bow, cutting through the silence of the dark night.

Xavier had never seen his Master in such a rage and quickly ordered his subordinates to continue the search.

...

In the apartment.

Serena sat on the sofa, looking with satisfaction at the medicine she had obtained from the hospital that day. She only had a slight cold, but she hadn't expected to run into Luna.

Heaven had handed her a perfect opportunity. Luna had no idea what Gideon was doing outside and only knew he didn't come home, which allowed Serena to take advantage of the situation.

Pregnant? Haha. Gideon had never felt anything for her; how could she possibly be pregnant?

However, as long as she could make Luna back down, her goal would be achieved.

Luna really didn't know her place. She had coveted Gideon since she was just the Ugly Duckling, and now she actually presumed to seek his love.

With just a few minor tricks, Serena could drive them further and further apart.

Gideon could only belong to her.

As Serena was gloating, the door suddenly swung open. She quickly composed herself and sat up straight, speaking with surprise, "Gideon, why are you here?"
