"Goodbye, My Cold Husband: Reborn to Hate You" Chapter 24

In contrast, Luna's injuries were nothing compared to Gideon’s.

That was why she was out of surgery early and was never in any life-threatening danger.

Gideon stayed in the hospital for four months. Every day, he would go to Luna’s ward, saying nothing, often staying until dawn before heading straight to the office.

In fact, the main reason Luke agreed to help Luna was because he truly hoped that if there was a misunderstanding between her and Gideon, it could be cleared up quickly.

That way, Gideon wouldn't have to torture and suppress himself like this anymore.

It wasn't that he didn't love her; he loved her to the bone, yet he was unwilling to say it.

Gideon hated Luna, but he also loved her deeply, which was why he hid guilt for the person in the deepest part of his heart.

Because of this, he could die with her, but he would never say a single kind word to her.

Luke had never seen such an extreme and determined person; Gideon was truly a milestone of obsession.

"By the way, I'm a cripple right now—you don't actually think I was the one who rescued you, do you? As soon as Gideon got news of your location, he rushed there immediately. Even though those thugs were no match for him, the wounds on his body hadn't healed yet. Some of his stitches tore open, but he just left in a hurry after getting you to the hospital."

He chuckled softly and murmured, "Luna, do you really think he doesn't love you? I don't know if Serena is actually pregnant, but I can be sure that the child has nothing to do with Gideon. Because his heart can't hold anyone else anymore."

...

Luna had never imagined that this was the truth of the matter.

She closed her eyes, her memory returning to the moment she jumped.

It was a cold, drizzly day. She had said that if there was a next life, she would never love him again, and then she jumped.

Mid-fall, she had lost all consciousness and forgotten that someone had caught her as if she were a precious treasure, holding her tightly in his arms. He had whispered in her ear: "If you want to die, fine. I’ll go with you."

Luna smiled, and tears fell silently.

She finally understood why, on their wedding night in that other life, he had said, "I am your husband; even in death, I will be with you."

As it turned out, Gideon had never changed.

It was only fate that heartlessly pushed them apart time and time again.

Luna didn't know how she got home. She stood at the door, looking into the dark, cold house. The suppression and fear in her heart vanished without a trace. All this time, she felt that she was the one who had sacrificed everything, the one who alone guarded those memories, the one who loved to the bone.

But Gideon had clearly given even more than she had.

Chapter 55: Does It Still Hurt?

She walked to the sofa, took out her phone, and dialed a number. Her voice was slightly dry. "Gideon, I’m waiting for you at home."

Gideon gave an affirmative hum and hung up. He then looked at the group of cowering people in the conference room, his voice bone-chillingly cold. "What, you all had the courage to do it, yet not one of you dares to step forward and take responsibility?"

The atmosphere was tense to the extreme.

After a moment, an elderly man coughed twice and spoke, "Gideon, when that woman threatened to marry you using the old Master's shares, her motives were never pure. Over the years, haven't you been restricted by her, preventing you from dealing with those shareholders? We only did this to help you..."

"Help me?" He suddenly let out a cold laugh. "Who gave you the right?"

"Gideon, you can't say that. We are all members of the Cook family. It is truly unseemly for shares that should belong to us to fall into the hands of an outsider. I don't know what the old Master was thinking."

As soon as these words were spoken, several people immediately voiced their agreement.

Gideon stood up, his expression as cold as ice, yet the words he spoke stirred up a storm. "Everyone involved in this matter is stripped of their status as Cook Group shareholders and removed from the Cook family ancestry records."

Bang—

Someone slammed the table hard. "Gideon, by what right?!"

"By the right that I hold sixty percent of the shares in the Cook Group."

After saying this, he left coldly.

...

When Gideon returned, the lights in the house were off, save for a wall lamp in the living room that cast a faint, hazy glow.

A number of wine bottles were scattered across the coffee table, lying in various states of disarray.

Luna turned her head and gave him a wide smile. "You're back."

He frowned, walked over, and took the half-empty bottle from her hand. "How much more do you intend to drink?"

"I'm not drinking anymore. Now that you're back, I won't drink." Luna’s nose was red. Her hand touched the wound on his waist through his clothes, her voice trembling. "Gideon, does it still hurt?"

Gideon’s face darkened abruptly, and he grabbed her wrist. "Did Luke tell you everything?"

She shook her head, and a thousand words condensed into just three: "I am sorry."

Gideon’s gaze cooled slightly. He let go of her hand and regained his indifferent tone. "Only I can decide your life or death; it has nothing to do with—"

Before he could finish, a soft, warm sensation covered his lips, carrying a faint scent of alcohol.

Luna gently licked his lips with the tip of her tongue, her eyes full of the delicate charm of intoxication. "Gideon, you hate me so much, shall we get a divorce?"

Gideon’s handsome brow furrowed slightly. Just as he reached out to push her away, she clung to him again, her arms around his neck while tears fell silently.

They tasted bitter.

"Gideon, Gideon... can you please... not hate me?"

After a long time, Gideon gently pulled her away, the emotions in his eyes calm. "Luna, do you know what I dislike most about you?"

She looked at him and said nothing.

"Since you made me marry you three years ago, you have never dared to look me in the eye. Every word you speak is carefully considered for a long time. You're afraid of making me angry, you care about my every feeling, and you've even given up everything to stay here day after day, doing the same things. But since meeting Luke, you've changed a lot. If..."

Gideon’s expression remained unchanged, but even so, he paused before continuing, "If being with him allows you to find yourself again, I agree to the divorce."

Chapter 56: Not Even Afraid of Death

Luna laughed. She didn't know why she was laughing, but she felt a surge of emotion rushing through her chest.

She touched the scar behind her ear and said, "Gideon, you're wrong. I have never found myself. Do you know? When I was a child, I had a scar on my face. It was very ugly. No one wanted to be with me. Back then, I was self-conscious and timid, afraid of crowded places and afraid to speak loudly. I lived in the shadows every day."

"But then someone gave me an ugly doll that looked just like me. At that moment, for the first time, I felt there was light in the world. Since then, I have loved him for nearly twenty years. The scar on my face was removed after my car accident. I thought I could escape the shadows of the past, but only when facing him do I never dare to lift my head. Do you know why?"

Because he was always so excellent, always sacred and inviolable.

Every time she was before him, the feelings of inferiority she had since childhood would begin to take root and sprout wildly, enough to consume her.

So she could only stay low, deep in the dust.

Gideon remained silent, the dim light hiding all the emotions in his eyes.

Luna felt tired. She wiped away her tears, turned, and said, "If you want a divorce, then let's divorce."

Thinking of the wounds on his body, Luna felt a heart-wrenching pain. What had she ever done to deserve such treatment from him?

She was the one at fault. If she hadn't appeared in the first place, if she hadn't chosen to jump to end it all, Gideon would still be the same Gideon, his original life path unchanged by anyone.

If her love had become a burden, she would rather let go.

Luna had only taken two steps when her wrist was pulled.

She adjusted her emotions and turned with a smile, but before she could say anything, a kiss fell upon her like an overwhelming storm, as if intending to swallow her whole!
