"Vows of Silver and Stone" Chapter 4
Chapter 4: The Framed Thief
The dawn hadn't even broken when the heavy oak doors of the servant quarters were kicked off their hinges.
"Get up, thief!"
Two towering pack enforcers rushed into the small cellar room. Before Seraphina could even sit up from her thin cot, a rough hand grabbed the collar of her uniform and dragged her onto the cold stone floor.
Her bandaged hands scraped against the gravel, the raw blisters screaming in agony as she was ruthlessly hauled down the corridor.
She didn't cry out. She didn't ask what was happening.
The ice in her veins kept her perfectly still as they dragged her into the Great Hall.
The room was already packed, despite the ungodly hour. The pack elders stood in a semi-circle, their faces grim, their heavy wolf auras creating a suffocating pressure in the room.
At the center of the dais stood Elder Rex. He was the pack’s chief judge—a dogmatic, ancient wolf with a scarred face, a balding head, and eyes that held nothing but contempt for anyone beneath his rank.
He wore the traditional dark robes of the pack court, holding a heavy silver staff that clicked rhythmically against the stone.
Beside him stood Elena, weeping tears into a silk handkerchief, while Kilian stood like a monolith, his face masked in absolute, unyielding coldness.
The enforcers threw Seraphina onto her knees at the base of the dais.
"Alpha Kilian! Elders!" Elena sobbed, her voice echoing dramatically through the tense hall.
"I caught her! I went into the inner sanctum to pray for our union this morning, and I found the Silver Moon Chalice hidden right under her dirty cot mattress! She stole our pack's most sacred relic!"
Elder Rex stepped forward, slamming his silver staff against the floor.
"Seraphina Novak," Rex barked, his voice laced with dogmatic authority.
"The Silver Moon Chalice has held the divine blood of our ancestors for three centuries. To touch it without royal blood is a sin. To steal it is treason. What say you?"
Seraphina slowly lifted her head. Her emerald-green eyes were completely flat, devoid of any fear or desperation. She didn't look at Elena's terrible acting. She looked directly at Kilian.
"I didn't touch it," Seraphina said. Her voice was remarkably steady, cutting through the murmurs of the crowd.
"Liara!" Elena shrieked, pointing a manicured finger at her.
"The guards found it in your room! It was wrapped in your own dirty uniform shawl!"
"Silence," Kilian's deep baritone cut through the room like a guillotine.
He stepped down from the high throne, his heavy leather boots thudding against the stone steps until he stood directly in front of Seraphina.
The scent of crushed mint and ozone radiated from him, but it felt entirely suffocating now. He was no longer her fated mate; he was a cold, political executioner.
He looked down at her, his polar-ice blue eyes narrowed.

Kilian knew Elena was lying. He wasn't a fool; he knew the palace politics, and he knew Elena wanted her sister gone permanently to secure her own position as Luna. But as Alpha, truth mattered less than stability.
The pack elders were already restless after the broken mate bond. If he exposed Elena's lie, it would ruin the credibility of his new Luna and fracture the pack’s political alliances.
Seraphina was a variable he needed to eliminate. A scapegoat was exactly what he needed to close this chapter.
"The evidence is undeniable, Seraphina," Kilian said, his voice entirely devoid of emotion. "The relic was found in your possession."
"You know I didn't take it, Kilian," Seraphina said softly, her voice a chilling whisper that only he could hear.
"You know exactly whose hands put it there."
Kilian’s jaw tightened, a muscle leaping in his cheek. For a split second, his inner wolf snarled in his mind, furious at the injustice he was about to commit. But his political ambition crushed the beast instantly.
"Your defense is invalid," Kilian announced to the hall, turning his back on her. "Elder Rex, read the sentence for treason."
Elder Rex stepped forward, his scarred face twisting into a grim smile.
"By the ancient laws of the Silver Moon, the penalty for stealing a sacred relic is death. However, in honor of your past Novak blood, the Alpha has shown mercy."
Rex slammed his staff down once more.
"You are hereby stripped of the Novak name. You are a rogue. You are exiled from the Silver Moon territory. If you step foot across our borders again, any wolf has the right to hunt you down and kill you like a dog."
The pack elders nodded in grim approval.
Seraphina didn't flinch. The stripping of her name felt like nothing. The exile felt like a gift. She was finally being released from this golden cage of horrors.
But as the enforcers grabbed her arms to drag her toward the gates, Elena stepped forward, her eyes glittering with a sudden, vicious greed.
"Wait!" Elena called out, her voice dripping with fake sorrow. "Alpha, she is still wearing our mother's silver necklace. It's a sacred Novak heirloom. A nameless rogue has no right to wear it."
Kilian paused.
He looked at the delicate silver chain resting against Seraphina’s porcelain skin. It was the only thing their mother had left behind—a beautiful, ancient silver filigree amulet that Seraphina had worn every single day of her life.
Kilian walked back to her. He didn't ask her to take it off.
With a brutal, careless swipe of his large hand, Kilian wrapped his fingers around the silver chain and yanked it upward.
The sharp metal bit into the delicate skin of Seraphina’s neck, drawing a thin line of bright red blood that trickled down her collarbone. The chain snapped with a harsh, metallic sound.
Seraphina didn't gasp from the pain. She didn't beg. But as the necklace left her body, something extraordinary happened.
The Silver Moon Chalice, which sat on the altar behind Elder Rex, suddenly let out a low, vibrant hum.
It wasn't a wolf's power. It was an ancient, divine vibration. The moment Seraphina's blood spilled from her neck, the relic hummed with an impossible, blinding divine power, its silver engravings glowing with a faint, saint-silver light.
It was the unmistakable sign of her hidden witch heritage, a bloodline so ancient it predated the pack itself.
Elder Rex froze, staring at the glowing chalice in absolute horror. "What... what is that?"
But Kilian was too focused on his execution to notice the magic. He turned away, casually tossing the bloody silver necklace into Elena’s eager, outstretched hands.
"Take it," Kilian said coldly. "She won't be needing heirlooms where she's going."
Elena clutched the necklace to her chest, her face twisting into a victorious, hideous grin.
"Drag her out," Kilian commanded.
The enforcers ruthlessly yanked Seraphina backward, her feet dragging through the dirt as they hauled her toward the massive iron gates of the castle.
Seraphina didn't look at the glowing chalice. She didn't look at her weeping sister.
Her emerald-green eyes remained locked onto Kilian’s back until the heavy iron doors slammed shut between them, locking her out in the freezing dark dawn.
The countdown had officially reached zero.
