"When the Billionaire’s Son Chose the Maid" Chapter 4
The hallway was heavy with silence, almost suffocating.
Anna Collins walked slowly, holding Liam in her arms. The baby was still restless, as if sensing the tension building inside the Whitman estate.
Each step echoed across the marble floors, reflecting in the golden chandeliers. Anna felt the weight of the entire mansion pressing on her shoulders.
She knew Daniel trusted her, but doubt still lingered in the air—especially with Isabella present, the baby’s mother, always ready to turn any situation into an accusation.
Anna drew a deep breath, trying to stay calm. Liam nestled against her chest, his tiny heart racing, and she remembered every sacrifice she had made to protect him so far.
In the security room, Daniel watched carefully, tracking every detail of the inspection. The head of security, John, pointed toward the crib mattress, detailing the evidence they had discovered.
Small metal pins had been removed and examined carefully, revealing deliberate tampering. Everything indicated the crib had been altered with the intention of harming Liam.
“That’s exactly right,” John said, his voice firm. “Someone tampered with the mattress. It was meant to hurt the baby.”
His gaze swept over Anna. She felt a strange mixture of relief and tension. Relief because finally someone acknowledged the truth; tension because it would only increase Isabella’s hostility.
“You’re saying someone in this house did this?” Isabella burst in abruptly, her voice full of fury.
“You’re making this up! Anna, how dare you accuse me of such things? Are you trying to ruin my reputation?”
Anna inhaled deeply, lifting her eyes to Isabella and standing firm.
“Mrs. Whitman, I’m not accusing anyone without proof. But the mattress was tampered with, and Liam only calms in my arms. He was in danger.”
Silence fell for a few seconds. John crossed his arms, observing the two women, aware that tension was about to explode.
Daniel remained quiet, analyzing every detail, every expression. Anna felt his gaze on her, a mix of trust and concern.
“This is unacceptable,” Daniel said finally, his voice firm. He stepped closer to the crib, examining the mattress carefully.
“John, document everything. I want to know exactly what happened here. Anna, you will stay with me and Liam until this is fully clarified.”
Anna nodded, feeling her breath steady. Daniel’s trust was an anchor, keeping her grounded even with Isabella seething at the door.
But she knew the battle was only beginning. Isabella would not easily accept that someone challenged her authority, especially a household employee.
“You think you can make decisions on your own?” Isabella spat, her voice dripping with disdain. “You’re nothing but a maid. You don’t know what’s best for Liam!”
Anna felt the tension rise but stayed resolute. “I’m not deciding what’s best for him. I’m showing that he needs protection. And right now, he trusts me.”
Liam let out a soft whimper, and Anna leaned closer, whispering gentle words in his ear.

The baby nestled even closer, his large, wet eyes fixed on her. Every gesture from Anna transmitted security—something not all the wealth and power of the Whitman family could provide.
Isabella drew a deep breath, trying to maintain control, but Anna noticed the faint tremor in her fingers. Doubt shone in her eyes, though pride would never allow her to admit it. Anna knew this was the moment her authority in the room began to solidify.
Daniel stepped closer, placing a firm hand on Anna’s shoulder. “John, I want no one to enter the nursery without my permission. Anna will be responsible for every detail.”
Isabella could not hide her surprise, but her anger still burned inside. “This is absurd! You’re trusting a maid more than me, the mother of your child?”
Daniel ignored the provocation. “The baby trusts her. That’s more important than any title or wealth. Anna, you will do whatever it takes to keep him safe.”
Anna nodded, a wave of determination running through her. She knew the responsibility was immense, but finally she had someone by her side who understood the gravity of the situation—and trusted her.
Liam cried softly but was calmer now. Anna rocked him gently, feeling each breath, each tiny movement.
She leaned over the crib, checking the mattress again. It was safe now, but danger still hovered over the mansion, and Anna knew she had to stay vigilant.
“Why did all the cameras fail that night?” Daniel asked, frowning, his voice carrying the mix of anger and concern of a father determined to protect his child.
John replied, “I don’t know yet, sir. But I’ll check every record and every exterior camera. Nothing will go unnoticed.”
Anna kept Liam secure, eyes alert to every move Isabella made. The billionaire’s wife stood at the door, arms crossed, gaze cold and fixed.
But deep down, Anna knew Isabella was struggling to control the panic she felt. Pride wouldn’t allow her to admit it, yet there was fear—and Anna could sense it.
“This isn’t over, Anna,” Isabella said, her voice low and threatening. “You’ll regret challenging me.”
Anna lifted her eyes to her calmly. “As long as I’m here, Liam is safe. No one will hurt him—not you, not anyone.”
Daniel stayed close, observing the two women, aware of the tension. He knew protecting the baby would require firm decisions, and that Anna was the only one capable of ensuring his safety at that moment.
John sprang into action, checking every camera in the mansion, every hallway, every access point.
“Sir, I’ll make sure no one approaches without permission,” he said firmly. His presence brought security, but also a reminder that the situation was far from resolved.
Liam finally sighed, settling into Anna’s arms. She brushed his hair gently, feeling a momentary calm, though she knew the tension was just beginning.
Anna realized Daniel trusted her, giving her strength to face any attack, any accusation Isabella could throw.
“It’s okay, my little one,” she whispered, tilting her head to kiss his forehead. “No one will hurt you while I’m around.”
The mansion seemed quieter now, but Anna knew the war was far from over. Every shadow, every sound could hide danger.
She remained steadfast, watching every movement, every expression, ready to act instantly.
Daniel placed a firm hand on Anna’s shoulder, his gaze decisive. “He trusts only you. I trust you to keep him safe.”
Anna nodded, feeling a mix of relief and determination. Finally, she had someone who understood the stakes—and trusted her completely.
Isabella, standing at the door, drew a deep breath, eyes fixed on Anna. Anger still simmered, but now a shadow of doubt was present.
