"The Dilemma of a Bomb Disposal Specialist" Chapter 3

"Today is my dog's birthday. I specifically begged Sister for leniency—as long as you set off fireworks for me, she’ll forgive you."

Seraphina stood to the side, looking at him with cold eyes.

"Caspian has a kind heart. As long as you help celebrate the puppy's birthday, today’s incident will be forgotten."

Silas raised his eyes, looking at Seraphina in disbelief.

"Sophie and my mother haven't even had their seventh-day memorial service yet, and you want to set off grand fireworks to celebrate the birthday of a dog that has eaten their ashes?"

Chapter 5

Seraphina swept her cold gaze across Silas.

"Silas, I am informing you, not negotiating with you. Don't forget, Sophie and your mother’s ashes haven't been buried yet. You wouldn't want any more accidents to happen, would you?"

Silas gritted his teeth, letting the metallic taste of blood flood his mouth.

"Seraphina, you’d go so far as to use my daughter’s and mother’s ashes to threaten me for the sake of a dog?"

Seraphina looked at him with dark, unreadable eyes.

"Silas, I am merely teaching you how to learn to be obedient."

Silas’s straight spine finally buckled. He slumped to the ground, nodding with a deathly gray face.

"Fine. I’ll set off the fireworks."

Silas struggled to stand up, his footsteps staggering as he headed toward the backyard.

On the lawn, fireworks had already been arranged in the shape of a heart, looking utterly ironic.

Silas walked over, and just as he prepared to light them, he suddenly noticed something wrong with the positioning of the fuse.

Just as Silas was about to examine it, Caspian’s dog suddenly lunged toward him.

Before Silas could react, the lighter in his hand ignited the fireworks.

In the next second, there was a massive blast, and the fireworks detonated instantly before his eyes.

In an instant, Silas felt the world spinning; a burst of excruciating pain surged through his body, nearly consuming his consciousness.

Just as he was about to pass out, a figure rushed through the smoke.

Seraphina ran frantically toward Silas, pulling him tightly into her arms.

"Silas, I'm sorry!"

Silas wanted to laugh, but as he laughed, tears fell.

Seraphina, if I could, I would wish I had never met you.

...

When he opened his eyes again, Silas’s world was only black and white, as if he had lost all color.

"How could this be?"

Silas panicked, wanting to get out of bed, but Seraphina rushed over from the sofa.

"Silas, don't move around! Your eyes were injured by the explosion, your retinas were damaged—you won't be able to see color ever again!"

Large tears fell from Silas’s eyes. He touched his eyes with trembling hands, but he could no longer see any color.

The eyes that could identify the metal connection wires of a bomb at a glance could no longer distinguish color. How could he accept this?

Seraphina held him tightly in her arms with heartache.

"Silas, I will find a way to heal your eyes."

"I’ve also had Sophie and your mother’s ashes properly buried. Don't worry, I am here for everything."

Silas opened his mouth, but not a single word came out; only endless hatred spread in the depths of his eyes.

Silas stayed in the hospital for a full week before being discharged.

The first thing Silas did after being discharged was take a taxi to the cemetery where his daughter and mother were buried.

As soon as he got out of the car, a light drizzle began to fall from the sky.

Silas walked into the cemetery in the rain, but as soon as he reached the gravesite, he saw a group of people nearby, digging for something.

Silas approached, and upon seeing the shattered urns on the ground, he froze in place, unable to hear anything but the thunder in the sky.

Those people were digging up his daughter's and mother's graves!

"By what right are you digging up my daughter’s and mother’s graves?"

Silas rushed over, clutching the urns on the ground tightly to his chest.

One of the men glanced at Silas and pushed him to the ground with disdain.

"Young Master Caspian took a liking to these two spots. CEO Seraphina specifically ordered us to dig them up to bury Young Master Caspian's dog."

Seraphina?

Hearing her name, Silas felt as if thousands of sharp arrows had pierced his body, causing him excruciating pain.

He didn't understand why they still wouldn't let him go.

Then, the man swung the shovel in his hand and hacked toward his daughter’s urn.

Silas, ignoring his unhealed wounds, threw himself on top of it.

The shovel landed on Silas, fresh blood flowing down his back, and then a stern voice echoed from behind.

"What are you doing?"

Chapter 6

Seraphina walked over with a cold gaze. At the moment she saw Silas lying on the ground, covered in wounds, a trace of hesitation flickered in her eyes.

Silas, clutching the two shattered urns in his arms, looked at Seraphina with a gaze of utter despair.

"Seraphina, they are already dead. Why do you still refuse to let them rest in peace?"

Before Seraphina could speak, Caspian hurried forward and took her arm.

"Sister, it’s all my fault. My dog passed away in that firework accident, didn't it? You told me to pick a burial spot for him, and I thought this was just an abandoned grave with no one to pay respects to. I never imagined it was the grave of your niece and brother-in-law’s mother."

As he spoke, Caspian stepped forward, making a gesture to help Silas up from the ground.

"Brother-in-law, it’s all my fault. Please, don't blame Sister."

Silas looked at Caspian’s nauseatingly fake face, the hatred in his eyes nearly overflowing.

"I don't need your hypocrisy here."

As the words left his lips, even before Silas’s hand could touch Caspian, Caspian threw himself backward.

Seeing Caspian about to fall into a mud pit, Seraphina stepped forward and pulled him into her arms, looking at Silas with a gloomy expression.

"Silas, Caspian didn't mean it. Why must you be so aggressive?"

Silas gave a cold snort as he looked at Seraphina.

"One word of 'not meaning it' is enough to justify digging up someone else’s grave to bury a beast?"

Caspian pulled on Seraphina’s hand, appearing deeply saddened.

"Sister, my dog isn't a beast. He is my family, my treasure."

Seraphina looked up at Caspian’s aggrieved expression, her heart nearly breaking, and then she turned her cold, icy gaze toward Silas.

"It’s just a plot of land. Your mother is already dead; it’s not like she would know where she’s buried!"

Silas looked up at Seraphina in disbelief, unable to believe such words could come from her mouth.

"What about our daughter? She was your own biological child."

Silas questioned her with a raspy voice.

Seraphina didn't even glance at the urns in his arms, her expression indifferent.

"As a child of the Sterling family, she shouldn't care about such meaningless things. It’s just a plot of land."

After speaking, Seraphina looked at the workers nearby.

"Since Caspian has taken a liking to this plot, just let him have it."

Silas stared at Seraphina in shock, his eyes bloodshot.

"Seraphina, you can't do this to me."

As Silas began to rush forward, Seraphina’s bodyguards pinned him firmly to the ground in the next second.

"Seraphina, what did my mother and child ever do wrong to deserve this from you?"

Silas shrieked in agony. The sky rumbled with thunder, and his face was slick with moisture—he could no longer tell if it was rain or tears.

Silas didn't know how he made it back home. Once there, he fell into a high fever and struggled for days before he could even get out of bed.

One day, feeling slightly better, Silas prepared to go out to handle his passport. As soon as he reached the door, he saw Caspian walking back, holding Seraphina’s hand.

Upon seeing Silas, Caspian walked over with intimate familiarity.

"Brother-in-law, there’s a charity gala tonight. Why don't you come with us?"

Silas instinctively wanted to refuse, but Seraphina grabbed his hand directly.

"It’s rare for Caspian to be in such a good mood. Don't ruin his spirits."

Silas didn't want to cause any more trouble before his departure, so he nodded in agreement.

Before the charity banquet began, there was a charity auction, where all items had been donated.

Silas had no interest in the auction and was just about to leave when Caspian suddenly grabbed his sleeve.

"Brother-in-law, are you sure you want to leave now? You might find the next item very interesting!"

Silas paused slightly, and then heard the auctioneer's voice from the stage.

"The next item is a sarira relic, which can be used to pray for blessings and safety. The starting bid is one million."

Silas’s expression changed drastically the moment he saw the relic, while Caspian leaned in close to his ear and whispered with a smile.
