"The Billionaire’s Regret" Chapter 1

Chapter 1

Ever since she was rescued from the landslide disaster area, Sienna seemed like a completely different person.

Before, whenever Julian returned from his morning jog, she would always have warm, light salted water and a towel ready to wipe his sweat. When he had business dinners at night, she would leave a floor lamp on in the living room, only going to sleep once she heard the sound of his sports car pulling into the garage.

Now, the house was cold and lifeless. She no longer questioned his whereabouts. Even when she saw Julian holding Chloe by the garden downstairs, she didn’t rush over to confront him as she had in the past; she simply turned around calmly, preparing to go grocery shopping.

"Sienna!"

A low, slightly impatient voice called out from behind her.

She stopped but didn’t look back.

The sound of handmade leather shoes approaching on the pavement drew near. Julian strode around to stand in front of her, blocking her path.

The usually composed and noble young master of the Fu family looked somewhat unnatural at this moment, explaining quickly: "Don’t overthink it. Chloe’s blood sugar dropped just now, and she couldn’t stand steadily. I was just catching her; we happened to bump into each other."

Sienna looked up at him.

Even in casual wear, this man possessed a tall, straight posture with deep, sharp eyes. He was the renowned cold-hearted scion of the elite social circle. She had once loved this look of his so intensely that she had lost herself completely.

But now, she only found him noisy.

She pulled her wrist back from his grip, her tone as indifferent as if she were discussing the weather: "No need to explain. Not to mention just catching her, even if you were actually kissing, it wouldn't matter."

Julian froze, his brows knitting tightly: "What nonsense are you spouting? What do you mean it wouldn't matter if we were kissing?"

He scrutinized Sienna’s face, attempting to find even a trace of feigned anger or jealousy.

There was none.

Her eyes were like stagnant water, completely without ripples.

"Are you still blaming me?" Julian lowered his voice, carrying the authority of one long accustomed to high positions, yet tinged with a trace of insecurity: "I told you, the situation was critical at the time. Chloe has severe depression and cannot be stimulated; besides, she doesn't know how to swim... In that situation, I could only save her first. You are the mistress of the Fu family, you should be more magnanimous..."

"I don't blame you." Sienna interrupted him, "I truly don't care. Isn't this exactly what you wanted?"

She looked at him, the corner of her mouth curling into a faint arc: "You always said Chloe was the widow of your friend, lonely and helpless, and that I should take care of her and not be small-minded. When she had a breakdown in the middle of the night, you took the car from the house to accompany her to the hospital, leaving me behind in a rainstorm. When she took a liking to my necklace, you made me give it to her as a birthday present. Now that I’ve stopped causing a scene, just as you wished, aren’t you happy?"

Julian was choked for words, his Adam’s apple bobbing up and down, feeling inexplicably agitated.

Yes, he used to be most annoyed when Sienna was jealous over Chloe’s matters, feeling she wasn't broad-minded enough. But seeing her now, pushing him away like this, he felt even more panicked inside.

"Sienna, can we turn the page? Once Chloe's condition stabilizes, I will compensate you..."

Just as he was speaking, a black Bentley stopped by the roadside—it was the car Julian had called to take Sienna to the hospital for a follow-up exam, as her own car was in the shop.

The window rolled down. Chloe was in the passenger seat, looking pale and timid: "Sienna, are you going to the hospital too? Come on up, the wind is strong outside."

Julian opened the car door: "Get in. It's on the way, and I need to take Chloe to get her medication."

Sienna didn't move.

Julian pushed her into the back seat without room for argument.

After the car had traveled a short distance, Chloe suddenly exclaimed: "Oh! Sienna, you... why is there blood on your pants?"

Sienna stiffened. She looked down, realizing it was the postpartum lochia that hadn't cleared yet; standing for so long had caused it to seep through.

Julian saw the flash of red in the rearview mirror. His expression shifted, and he immediately took off his suit jacket and handed it to the back seat: "Cover up, don't catch a cold."

The jacket still held his body heat and the scent of cedarwood. Sienna didn’t take it, letting it slide to the floor by her legs.

Just then, Chloe suddenly clutched her chest, her breathing becoming rapid: "Julian... I feel terrible... I'm hemophobic..."

Her face was deathly pale, and large tears rolled down her cheeks: "Seeing that blood... it reminds me of when Old Cheng passed away... I can't breathe..."

Screech.

The car braked sharply.

Julian steadied Chloe, looked back at Sienna, his expression conflicted.

After a few seconds of dead silence, he spoke: "Sienna, Chloe has trauma-induced stress; she can't look at blood. We are only two kilometers from the hospital now... why don't you catch a taxi?"

If this were in the past, Sienna would have cried, made a scene, and asked him exactly who his wife was.

But now, she simply nodded and pushed the door open to get out.

Her movements were so crisp and decisive that it left Julian stunned.

"Wait." Julian called out to her.

He took something from the glove box in the front passenger seat and handed it to her.

"Your ring." It was a simple silver band. "I found it in the gap of the seat earlier."

When Sienna saw the ring, a ripple finally appeared in her deadened eyes.

She snatched it up, clenching it tightly in her palm, her tone urgent: "Thank you."

Julian watched the sudden change in her expression, and an nameless anger flared up inside him.

She had been indifferent just moments ago when she saw him holding Chloe, but now, because of a cheap silver ring, she was this tense?

"Is this ring that important?"

Sienna wiped the dust off the ring and smiled. It was the first genuine smile she had shown since her return.

"Yes, it is important."

Because this was the token given to her by the man who had dug her out from the landslide and carried her on his back for ten kilometers.

Julian was stung by that smile.

"Why is it so important..." He had just started to ask when Chloe groaned in pain again, gripping his sleeve tightly.

"Julian, let's go... I'm so scared..."

Julian glanced at Sienna standing by the roadside, and in the end, he pressed down on the accelerator.

The black Bentley roared away, leaving Sienna in a cloud of exhaust fumes.

Sienna stood by the road, caressing the ring.

She, Julian, and Chloe had grown up together in the same compound. She loved Julian, and Julian loved Chloe.

Later, Chloe married Julian’s friend, Old Cheng. After Old Cheng passed away in an accident, Chloe returned to the country with his inheritance, becoming that fragile, swaying little white flower.

Out of both duty and selfish desire, Julian took meticulous care of Chloe.

And marrying Sienna had been nothing more than pressure from the dying elder of the Fu family.

For three years of marriage, she had given him her heart and soul, thinking she could warm this stone.

Until half a month ago, when the landslide struck.

She and Chloe had been trapped at the same time.

Julian, one of the rescue commanders, had rushed toward Chloe’s direction first.

"Sienna is sensible and physically fit; she can hold on a bit longer! Chloe has depression and cannot be stimulated!"

That was what he had roared over the walkie-talkie.

Buried under the rubble, listening to his footsteps fading into the distance, Sienna’s heart had turned completely cold.

In her moment of despair, a stranger had dug away the mud with his bare hands.

The man’s expensive custom-made suit was soaked in mud, and his peach-blossom eyes were bloodshot, yet they held a calm, arrogant assurance.

He pulled her out, looked at her scars, and sneered: "That man who is blind—don’t bother with him anymore. Once you're divorced, come with me."

Before leaving, he slipped this ring onto her finger: "Take this and find me in Haven City. I am Mason."

Mason—the head of the Qin family in Haven City, famous for his ruthlessness and power.

Sienna didn’t know why he had taken an interest in her, but she knew she didn't need Julian anymore.

Back home, Sienna rummaged through her drawers and found a piece of paper Julian had scribbled on while drunk on their wedding night three years ago.
