"The Alpha's Demise" Chapter 9

Chapter 9: Blood and Gunpowder

The smell of rust, burnt oil, and Atlantic salt infested the decaying structure of the abandoned oil refinery in the Baixada Fluminense.

In the center of the main hangar, heavy industrial steel chains bound Rafe Cruz by his waist and wrists, suspending his body a meter off the ground. The Don of Rio was covered in dark bruises, deep cuts, and cigarette burns, but his golden eyes continued to burn with untouched ferocity.

Before him, Dmitry Voronov adjusted his black leather gloves while pressing a long-barreled Colt .45 revolver against the chin of Helena Rossi, who wept as she knelt nearby. In the background, Marcus, the mercenary leader, guarded the perimeter accompanied by twelve men armed with heavy assault rifles.

"Where is my nephew, Don Cruz?" Dmitry asked, his icy voice echoing through the iron structure. "I hope you haven't hidden my best property."

"Kaelen is far beyond the reach of your filthy hands, Voronov," Rafe replied, spitting a mouthful of dark blood onto the concrete floor.

"A pity," Dmitry disdained, clicking off the revolver's safety and pointing the steel barrel directly at Rafe's forehead. "I intended to reclaim my tool. But killing the king of Rio de Janeiro is an acceptable consolation prize."

Before the hammer of the gun could fall, the reinforced glass ceiling of the hangar shattered into a thousand gleaming shards under the moonlight. A slender, imposing silhouette plunged from the darkness of the sky attached to a high-speed tactical rope, cutting through the air like an angel of death.

Kaelen descended into the center of the hangar, drawing two submachine guns holstered at his chest even before his feet touched the ground. The deafening sound of continuous 9mm bursts flooded the hangar in a symphony of violence and mathematical precision.

Before Marcus and his mercenaries could raise their weapons, four guards hit the ground dead with pinpoint skull shots. Kaelen cut the tactical rope with a combat knife, rolling across the concrete floor and firing in all directions without breaking his momentum.

"Kaelen!" Rafe shouted, his eyes widening with a mixture of panic and absolute pride as he watched his partner in action.

"I told you that you don't have permission to die without me, Cruz!" Kaelen roared, his ice-blue eyes glowing with the promise of a massacre.

Marcus tried to flank the intruder by taking cover behind an oil tank, but Kaelen anticipated the movement with military mastery. The former commander leaped onto the iron platform, unleashing an entire burst into the mercenary's chest before he could pull the trigger.

Marcus's body plummeted from the second floor of the refinery, colliding lifelessly against the iron gears below. Helena took advantage of the chaos to crawl into the shadow of the tanks, escaping Dmitry's line of sight.

In under two minutes, the private army that dominated the location was completely annihilated by the lethal storm brought by Kaelen. Dmitry panicked, hiding behind the structure where Rafe was chained and trying to raise his revolver against his nephew.

Kaelen advanced in slow, calculated steps through the gunpowder smoke, discarding the empty magazines of his weapons and letting them drop with a metallic clatter. He drew a heavy-caliber pistol from a dead mercenary's vest, keeping the barrel pointed firmly at Dmitry's chest.

"You should have stayed in your grave in Siberia, Uncle," Kaelen said, his voice low and imbued with freezing contempt.

"You are my creation! A product of Project Omega!" Dmitry screamed, his voice trembling for the first time. "You belong to the Voronov family!"

"I belong to no one," Kaelen declared, firing two precise shots into Dmitry's knees.

The man let out a howl of agonizing pain, collapsing onto the dirty floor as blood pooled over the concrete. Kaelen walked up to the fallen tyrant and disarmed the revolver from his hand with a violent kick to the wrist.

With his left hand wrapped in tactical tape, Kaelen shoved his fingers into the inner pocket of Dmitry's overcoat, pulling out a reinforced glass vial containing a silvery liquid. The substance was the complete, synthesized formula of the ultimate antidote, capable of neutralizing mutation fevers and dissolving the biological dependence on pheromones.

Kaelen pocketed the vial in his vest, staring down at the terrified, deformed face of his former tormentor.

"This is for my army, my name, and everything you tried to take from me," Kaelen whispered, pressing the muzzle of the pistol against Dmitry's forehead.

The gunshot echoed through the silent hangar, and Dmitry Voronov's body collapsed lifelessly onto the dust and blood of the refinery.

Kaelen immediately turned to Rafe, approaching the iron structure where the Alpha remained trapped by the industrial chains. Grabbing a blowtorch key from a dead mercenary's belt, Kaelen cut the steel links with a quick, precise spark.

The chains fell with a heavy crash, and Rafe's exhausted body collapsed forward, instantly caught by Kaelen's strong arms. Rafe rested his head on the former commander's shoulder, letting out a raspy breath as he felt the comforting scent of frosty rose envelop his senses.

"Your stubbornness is going to get us both killed, General," Rafe gasped, breaking into a weak, bloody smile against Kaelen's neck.

Kaelen grabbed Rafe's chin with his bloody hand, forcing the mobster to meet his ice-blue gaze filled with indomitable determination.

"That military sedative of yours was ridiculous and far too weak to keep me in a bed, darling," Kaelen sneered, a cold, provocative smile playing on his lips.

Kaelen stepped firmly over Dmitry Voronov's corpse, using the tip of his boot to kick the body away and clearing the smoke from his gun barrel with a slow blow.

"Now, enough playing around," Kaelen declared, helping Rafe to his feet and draping the mobster's arm over his shoulders.

"Let's go home, Cruz," Kaelen concluded, guiding his Alpha out of the hell of gunpowder and smoke into the dawn rising over Rio de Janeiro.
