"The Crippled Billionaire's Replacement Bride" Chapter 7
Chapter 7:
The heavy double doors of the private drawing room swung open with an aggressive bang, admitting the uninvited guest in a flurry of expensive perfume and cheap malice.
Clarissa Sinclair swept across the Persian carpet clad in an oversized white designer coat, her nose tilted upward in an expression of absolute disgust.
She paused in the center of the spacious room, casting a theatrical shudder of pity toward the corner where Killian sat quietly in his wheelchair.
"Well, well, look at the gloomy little bird trapped in a gilded cage," Clarissa trilled, her voice dripping with venomous mockery as she locked eyes with her sister.
"I came all the way out to this archaic wasteland just to make sure you hadn't died of sheer boredom or starvation yet, Lyra."
Lyra did not flinch, nor did she rise from her velvet armchair, instead slowly turning a small silver scalpel between her fingers with absolute, chilling composure.
"It is fascinating how a woman wearing cubic zirconia crystals disguised as diamonds can walk into a room with such staggering confidence," Lyra remarked smoothly.
"Though I suppose desperation makes people buy very cheap imitations when they are trying desperately to keep up appearances in Manhattan."
Clarissa’s triumphant smirk faltered instantly, a sudden flush of angry crimson rising up her neck and staining her meticulously contoured cheeks.
"How dare you insult my jewelry, you ungrateful little country peasant!" Clarissa shrieked, taking a sharp step forward with her manicured hands clenched into fists.
"I am a guest in this house, and you are nothing more than a pathetic substitute bride traded off because I refused to wipe a cripple's wheelchair!"
Before Killian could flex his fingers against his armrests to intervene, Lyra stood up with slow, unhurried grace, her amber eyes locking onto her sister's panic.
"Substitute bride? Oh, Clarissa, let us talk about substitutes and the desperate bargains you made behind our father's back with Julian Thorne," Lyra said coldly.
"Shall we discuss the exact date your credit cards were declined at Fifth Avenue boutiques because your fiancé is currently liquidating your allowances to cover his market losses?"
Clarissa staggered backward half a step, the color draining entirely from her face as the razor-sharp truth hit her with devastating, undeniable force.
"You... you are lying," Clarissa stammered, her voice losing its previous theatrical screech and dropping into a pathetic, trembling octave of genuine fear.
"Julian told me the corporation was secure; he said the Thorne empire belongs to us, and we are going to rule high society together!"
"Your precious Julian is currently watching his entire financial foundation collapse into dust because he picked a war with a predator he thought was dead," Lyra stated.
She stepped closer to her half-sister, her voice dropping into a razor-thin whisper that carried the terrifying weight of absolute authority and unassailable facts.
"You traded me off thinking you were escaping a sinking ship, only to chain yourself to a drowning thief who will be in federal prison before the month ends."

Killian watched the entire exchange from his wheelchair, a dark, dangerous smile stretching slowly across his hard, chiseled face as he observed his brilliant wife.
He had spent his entire life surrounded by ruthless corporate sharks who only understood the language of blood, betrayal, and cold, calculated dominance.
Watching Lyra dismantle her arrogant, vicious sister with mere words and unarguable logic filled him with a fierce, burning wave of absolute, unadulterated pride.
He didn't need to protect her from the petty insults of a superficial socialite because Lyra possessed the claws of a lioness wrapped in silk.
"Get out of my sight before I have security drag you through the mud outside," Lyra commanded quietly, pointing the silver scalpel toward the heavy double doors.
"And do not ever mistake my silence for weakness again, Clarissa, or your next visit to this estate will be behind prison glass."
Humiliated, cornered, and shaking with sheer incandescent rage, Clarissa spun around on her high heels and fled the room without uttering another single word.
The heavy doors slammed shut behind her retreating figure, leaving behind only the fading scent of artificial vanilla and the heavy silence of absolute victory.
Lyra let out a soft, composed breath, sliding the silver scalpel back into her pocket as she turned her head to meet Killian’s intense, burning gaze.
"You handled that with remarkably terrifying elegance, Mrs. Thorne," Killian murmured, his deep sapphire eyes gleaming with a dark, consuming hunger.
"I am beginning to suspect that keeping you locked in this quiet estate is far too boring for a woman who clearly enjoys slaughtering her enemies so cleanly."
Lyra walked across the Persian rug until she stood right beside his wheelchair, looking down into his striking face with a calm, challenging smirk.
"A good mechanic always clears the workspace of useless debris before she begins working on the engine, Killian," Lyra replied softly.
"And your family tree was desperately in need of a thorough, merciless pruning."
Killian did not hesitate for another second, reaching out with both strong hands to catch her by the waist and pull her down sharply into his lap.
Lyra gasped softly as her body collided against his solid, broad chest, her hands flying instinctively to rest against his shoulders to steady herself.
Before she could form a protest, Killian tilted her chin upward with his thumb and captured her lips in a deep, fierce, and utterly possessive kiss.
It was a kiss born of burning gratitude, dark pride, and an undeniable, ferocious passion that he had restrained beneath layers of ice for far too long.
His lips moved against hers with a raw, demanding intensity that made her breath hitch and her fingers curl tightly into the fabric of his dark shirt.
The cold, oppressive atmosphere of the mansion melted away entirely, replaced by the suffocating, electric heat of two souls recognizing their equal in war.
When Killian finally pulled back a fraction of an inch, his chest heaving with ragged breaths, his sapphire eyes burned with an eternal, unshakable vow.
"Julian is going to accelerate his final blow at the grand charity gala this weekend, thinking he can humiliate us publicly," Killian whispered against her lips.
"Let him try," Lyra replied, a brilliant, dangerous smile lighting up her amber eyes as she traced her thumb along his sharp jawline.
"We will stand tall together, and on that night, we will burn his entire kingdom to the ground."
