"Paper Vows, Blood Debts" Chapter 6
Chapter 6: The False Surrender and Conspiracy
The morning sun over São Paulo brought no warmth to the glass-and-steel monolith of Vance Global headquarters. Whispers traveled swiftly down the executive corridors as word of the underground ambush morphed into fabricated rumors of an executive fallout.
Inside the primary boardroom, the atmosphere was thick with manufactured hostility and watchful eyes. Alistair sat rigidly at the head of the long conference table, his face carved from cold stone as he addressed the assembled directors.
Cassia stood near the foot of the table, wearing a stark, severe black sheath dress that emphasized her unyielding posture. She held her head high, though her emerald-green eyes deliberately projected a veneer of professional defeat.
"Effective immediately, Miss Sterling's position as Vice President is revoked," Alistair announced, his voice echoing loudly through the silent room. "Her unauthorized access to secure internal directories has compromised corporate integrity. She is hereby stripped of all executive privileges and reassigned to indefinite house arrest at my private residence pending a formal ethics review."
A murmur of approval rippled through the older members of the board, particularly among those loyal to Uncle Victor. Carlos, the senior legal counsel of the holding company, sat quietly near the center of the table, maintaining an impeccably neutral facade.
Carlos adjusted his wire-rimmed glasses, nodding solemnly at Alistair's decree while his hand discreetly slid a sealed, encrypted flash drive across his briefcase on the floor. His outward display suggested complete subservience to the CEO's punishment, perfectly masking the underground alliance he had secretly forged with Cassia hours earlier.
"You are making a grave mistake, Mr. Vance," Cassia countered, her voice ringing out with manufactured bitterness. "Your corporate empire is rotting from the head down, and locking me away won't stop the truth from coming out."
"Silence, Miss Sterling," Alistair snapped, his amber eyes flashing with a dangerous, hidden intensity that only she knew how to read. "You are dismissed from this premises immediately. Rodrigo will escort you to the estate, and you will not step foot outside those gates without my direct authorization."
Cassia gathered her portfolio with deliberate slowness, turning on her heel and marching out of the boardroom under a barrage of triumphant stares. The public theater had been executed to absolute perfection, convincing Uncle Victor's faction that the dangerous auditor had been successfully neutralized and isolated.
Hours later, the heavy iron gates of Alistair's sprawling estate in the hills outside São Paulo locked shut behind the black security SUV. Inside the mansion, the illusion of hostility instantly dissolved the moment the exterior doors sealed them off from the prying eyes of the world.
The vast library was lit only by the warm, flickering glow of candlelight casting long shadows across towering mahogany bookshelves. Alistair poured two glasses of aged scotch, handing one to Cassia as she stood by the rain-streaked window overlooking the dark gardens.

"The board bought the act completely," Cassia said, taking a slow sip of the amber liquid as she turned to face him. "Uncle Victor's loyalists think I'm broken, locked away in your cage with no way to fight back."
"They don't understand that I didn't lock you in a cage to punish you," Alistair replied softly, closing the distance between them with slow, measured strides. "I put you behind my highest walls because a fortress is the safest place to sharpen a blade."
Cassia set her glass down on the nearest table, her emerald eyes locking onto his with absolute devotion. The cold, analytical auditor had vanished entirely, replaced by a woman entirely willing to become his most lethal weapon.
"Victor's faction won't wait long to make their next move," Cassia warned, her voice dropping to a low murmur as he stopped inches away from her. "They will want absolute confirmation that the primary financial ledger is destroyed before the shareholders' meeting."
Alistair reached out, his long fingers trailing softly down the side of her neck to cup her jawline. "Let them try to take it," he whispered, his amber eyes burning with a dark, possessive fire. "They are walking straight into a trap of our own design, and every single rat will drown in the proof of their own corruption."
The tension that had remained tightly coiled between them since the garage ambush suddenly snapped with violent clarity. The calculated hostility they projected to the outside world transformed instantly into a raw, consuming hunger behind closed doors.
Alistair pulled her against his chest with fierce urgency, his lips crashing down onto hers in a deep, punishing kiss that stole away all rational thought. Cassia let out a soft gasp, her hands flying up to grip the lapels of his jacket as she pulled him closer into her space.
The acted threats and corporate warfare melted away, replaced by the heavy, intoxicating friction of bare skin pressing against fabric in the warm candlelight. Alistair's hands mapped the curves of her waist with absolute territorial dominance, lifting her effortlessly off the floor.
Cassia wrapped her legs around his hips, her fingers tangling deep into his dark auburn hair as he carried her swiftly across the library. Every touch was an unspoken vow of vengeance, turning their shared conspiracy into an act of absolute, carnal complicity.
He lowered her onto the polished surface of the massive mahogany desk, scattering the legal briefs and confidential files across the floor with a careless sweep of his arm. Alistair leaned over her, his broad shoulders shielding her from the flickering candlelight as his hands tore ruthlessly through the barriers of their clothing.
"They think they own this empire, Cassia," Alistair rasped against her skin, his voice thick with a suffocating mix of passion and rage. "They have no idea what is coming for them."
Cassia arched into his touch, her breath hitching as his lips grazed the sensitive column of her throat, leaving a trail of fire in their wake. "Show them, Alistair," she whispered fiercely into the quiet room, her fingers digging into his back. "Show them who really rules."
Later that night, as the storm clouds cleared and moonlight filtered softly through the tall library windows, the red blinking light of a secure terminal on the corner of the desk caught their attention. Cassia leaned against Alistair's bare shoulder, reading the newly decrypted email displayed brightly across the screen.
It was an anonymous ultimatum sent directly from Uncle Victor's private relay server. The message demanded that Cassia personally hand over the master financial ledger during the upcoming emergency shareholders' meeting or face total public annihilation.
Alistair stared at the screen, a slow, terrifying smile spreading across his sharp features as he wrapped his arms tighter around her waist. He pressed a warm, lingering kiss to her temple, his voice dropping into a dark, triumphant murmur against her skin.
"Tomorrow, all of São Paulo will know who my queen is."
