"Paper Vows, Blood Debts" Chapter 8

Chapter 8: The Board Meeting

The morning sun rose over São Paulo, burning away the lingering remnants of the overnight storm and casting a sharp, unforgiving light across the glass façade of Vance Group tower. Inside the top-floor boardroom, the atmosphere was dense with suppressed tension, nervous whispers, and the unmistakable scent of corporate betrayal.

Uncle Victor sat comfortably at the center of the mahogany table, flanked by three corrupt board members who had pledged their loyalty to his hostile takeover.

He adjusted his silk tie with a slow, smug grin, fully believing that Alistair had been permanently neutralized and that the empire was finally his to plunder.

"Gentlemen, it is regrettable that our CEO has chosen to isolate himself during such a critical transition period," Uncle Victor announced, his voice dripping with false sorrow as he addressed the assembly of shareholders.

"However, corporate governance requires decisive action, and under the circumstances, I move that we formally depose Alistair Vance and strip his disgraced associate of all legal authority."

The President of the Board, a veteran and pragmatic partner who had weathered decades of corporate wars, frowned deeply as he shifted his papers.

"Your motion lacks the required supermajority vote, Victor, and Alistair has not officially forfeited his controlling shares," the President warned, his tone flat and unyielding.

"Control is an illusion held by those too weak to seize it," Uncle Victor countered smoothly, gesturing for his legal assistant to pull up the emergency voting documents.

"Vote now, or watch this entire conglomerate collapse under the weight of his reckless incompetence."

Before the corrupt directors could raise their hands to second the motion, the massive double doors at the end of the boardroom swung open with a resounding bang.

A sharp intake of breath echoed through the room as all eyes snapped toward the entrance in absolute disbelief.

Cassia stepped across the threshold with relentless elegance, her posture radiating pure, unadulterated power.

She wore a tailored crimson sheath dress that demanded absolute obedience, her chestnut-brown hair cut into a razor-sharp bob that framed her luminous ivory face.

"You cannot depose a king when the queen has already seized the treasury, Victor," Cassia stated, her voice cutting through the silent room like a blade of ice.

Uncle Victor shot up from his chair, his face contorting into an ugly mask of rage and panic. "Security!" he roared, pointing a shaking finger toward the doorway. "Get this criminal out of my sight immediately!"

"Security cannot help you here, Uncle," a cold, smooth voice echoed from the corridor behind her.

Alistair walked into the room with unhurried grace, his dark auburn hair neatly styled, wearing a pristine charcoal suit and a look of absolute, lethal authority. He did not even deign to look at his uncle as he took his rightful seat at the head of the table, though his amber eyes rested on Cassia with undisguised pride and adoration.

"You are finished here, Victor," Alistair said quietly, his voice carrying the terrifying weight of finality. "Sit down before you embarrass yourself further."

"You arrogant little bastard!" Uncle Victor screamed, slamming his palms onto the mahogany surface as his allies began to shift uncomfortably in their seats. "You have no proof of anything! This is a coup, a baseless fabrication!"

Cassia did not flinch under his screeching fury. Instead, she lifted her tablet, pressed a single button, and transmitted an encrypted override to the massive central projector screen behind the board.

Instantly, the high-definition display flickered to life, illuminating the entire room with undeniable proof of systematic money laundering, offshore shell corporations, and wire transfers sent directly to the hitmen who had attacked the garage.

"Every penny you diverted from the subsidiary accounts has been cataloged, Victor," Cassia said, her emerald eyes flashing with triumph as she walked steadily toward the head of the table.

"And worse still, we have the encrypted audio logs of your communications with the mercenaries who tried to murder a corporate executive on company property."

The boardroom erupted into chaos as shareholders and directors scrambled to read the cascading financial records and transcripts displayed on the screen. The President of the Board stared at the evidence in stunned silence before slowly closing his folder with a heavy, definitive thud.

"This meeting is adjourned," the President declared, his voice cutting through the noise. "Call federal authorities immediately."

Before Uncle Victor could lunge toward the doors, the heavy oak panels pushed open once more, and two federal agents in dark suits stepped forward. They moved with silent efficiency, stepping directly behind the trembling patriarch and slapping heavy steel handcuffs onto his wrists.

"Victor Vance, you are under arrest for corporate fraud, money laundering, and conspiracy to commit murder," the lead agent announced, reading him his rights as the metal cuffs clicked sharply into place.

As the agents hauled the sputtering, furious uncle toward the exit, Victor twisted his head around with a cynical, venomous laugh that echoed off the glass walls. "You think you won, nephew?" Victor spat out, his eyes locked onto Alistair with malicious glee.

"Ask your precious father about what really happened the night your mother's car went off the cliff! You're sleeping with the enemy, and you don't even know the half of it!"

The heavy doors slammed shut behind the departing guards, cutting off Victor's mocking laughter and plunging the boardroom into a heavy, suffocating silence. Alistair sat unmoving at the head of the table, his jaw clenched so tightly that a muscle twitched violently along his pale cheekbone.

Cassia turned to look at him, her heart skipping a beat as she saw the sudden fracture in his icy armor, realizing the psychological landmine his uncle had just detonated. Without a single word of hesitation, she bypassed the remaining shareholders and the stunned directors.

Before all the stunned shareholders, Alistair crossed the length of the boardroom table to meet her halfway, his stride urgent and desperate. He pulled Cassia against his chest with fierce, crushing intensity, burying his face in the crook of her neck as if she were his only anchor in a collapsing world.

Cassia wrapped her arms tightly around his broad shoulders, pressing her palm against the back of his head to hold him close against the storm.

Without caring about the staring eyes of the board members or the cameras recording the historic transition of power, Alistair tilted her chin upward.

He sealed their definitive victory with a passionate, public kiss that tasted of absolute devotion, raw redemption, and a shared future built over the ashes of their enemies.
