"The Vulture's Captive" Chapter 2
Chapter 02: Midnight Frost
The silence of the master suite stretched into the late hours of the night like a physical weight pressing against Aurelia's chest.
Outside the reinforced windows, the howling winter blizzard gathered fury, whipping sheets of blinding white snow against the Chicago skyline.
Inside the dark expanse of the bedroom, the digital numbers on the bedside table glowed in a faint, eerie blue.
Aurelia slid off the edge of the oversized bed, her bare feet pressing against the freezing expanse of the polished Italian marble floor.
The stillness of the penthouse felt suffocating, a heavy cage built of wealth and isolation that threatened to crush the air from her lungs.
She walked across the shadowy room toward the private wet bar, her fingers brushing against the crystal decanters and rows of imported stemware.
Without a sound, she lifted a heavy crystal wine glass by its stem and hurled it with all her strength against the far marble wall.
The glass shattered into a thousand glittering shards with a sharp, violent explosion that echoed through the empty suite.
Aurelia did not hesitate as she reached for a second glass, letting it fly to crash loudly against the expensive wainscoting.
"Are you attempting to redecorate my home, wife, or merely testing the durability of my imported crystal?" a cold, deep voice resonated from the doorway.
Viktor stood motionless in the shadows of the entrance, his white-blond hair catching the faint moonlight, his icy-grey eyes fixed entirely on her.
He wore no suit jacket now, his dark shirt unbuttoned at the collar to reveal the dangerous expanse of his throat and collarbone.
Aurelia picked up a third glass, her hand trembling slightly, and glared directly into his predatory gaze without backing down an inch.
"I am merely seeing if anything in this mausoleum can actually break," Aurelia retorted, her voice shaking with adrenaline and suppressed rage.
Viktor did not raise his voice, nor did he flinch as the third glass shattered against the floor near his leather shoes.
Instead, he closed the distance between them with terrifying speed, moving across the room like a silent phantom in the dark.
Before she could reach for another bottle, his large, calloused hand wrapped around her wrist with an inescapable, iron grip.
"You waste good wine and expensive glass," Viktor murmured, his voice a low, gravelly rumble that vibrated right against her skin.
"I waste whatever I choose in a prison built by a thief," Aurelia spat back, trying fiercely to yank her arm away from his hold.
Viktor ignored her struggle, his grip tightening just enough to remind her of the absolute futility of fighting his raw physical strength.
With a sudden, powerful motion, he swept her off her feet and marched her backward straight toward the massive wall of windows.
Aurelia gasped as her back slammed against the ice-cold glass of the reinforced pane, the freezing winter temperature bleeding right through her thin sweater.

The contrast between the glacial bite of the glass behind her and the scorching, punishing heat of Viktor's body in front of her was dizzying.
"You think defiance makes you powerful, Aurelia," Viktor whispered fiercely, pressing his heavy frame against her so she had nowhere to run.
"I know it keeps me alive," she breathed heavily, her violet eyes flashing with furious defiance in the dark.
"In this house, survival requires submission," Viktor growled, his icy-grey eyes darkening into a stormy, violent shade of slate.
"Then you chose the wrong prisoner, because I will never submit to a monster," Aurelia challenged, her voice dropping to a dangerous, steady hiss.
Viktor let out a dark, humorless sound that felt more like a threat than a laugh, his gaze dropping to her parted lips.
"We shall see how long that royal tongue remains so sharp," he murmured against her skin, capturing her mouth in a punishing, demanding kiss.
There was no gentleness in the way his lips claimed hers, only the raw, untamed fury of a man who demanded absolute dominion.
Aurelia fought back with every ounce of breath in her lungs, her teeth grazing his lower lip until she tasted the sharp, metallic tang of blood.
Instead of pulling away, Viktor groaned darkly against her mouth, deepening the kiss with a possessive heat that threatened to melt her resistance entirely.
His hands moved from her wrists to grip her waist, lifting her effortlessly as he pressed her harder against the freezing windowpane.
The cold glass burned her back, but the friction of his body created a blazing fire that sent a violent shiver racing through her veins.
"Look at me," Viktor commanded against her lips, pulling back just enough to force her eyes to meet his glowing grey gaze.
"I am looking at my warden," Aurelia whispered, her chest heaving as she tried to catch her breath in the charged air between them.
"Tomorrow morning, you will play the obedient wife for my captains," Viktor rasped in her ear, his breath hot and ragged against her neck. "Tonight, you belong to the monster."
Without waiting for an answer, he swept her up into his arms, carrying her effortlessly across the dark expanse of the master bedroom.
Aurelia's hands clutched instinctively at the dark fabric of his shirt, her frosty armor cracking under the overwhelming weight of his relentless desire.
He dropped her onto the center of the massive bed, his tall frame caging her in before she could roll away or construct a new defense.
The heavy black silk sheets felt cool against her skin, offering no real protection against the heavy, suffocating gravity of his presence.
Viktor loomed over her like an inescapable shadow, his fingers tangling roughly in her long platinum hair to tilt her face up toward his gaze.
"You cannot buy my soul with a contract, Viktor," she whispered into the dark, her voice finally betraying a fraction of the fear she tried so hard to hide.
"I do not want your soul, Aurelia," Viktor muttered, his lips brushing against her jawline with dangerous intensity. "I only want your compliance, body and breath."
He pressed his weight down upon her, trapping her completely beneath the dark silk sheets as the storm outside raged with unrelenting fury.
Somewhere out in the hallway, the deep, resonant chimes of the grandfather clock struck the hour of one in the morning.
The rhythmic ticking of time seemed to fade away entirely, swallowed by the darkness and the heavy, electric friction between them.
Aurelia closed her eyes for a single heartbeat, acutely aware that she had crossed a threshold from which there would be no turning back.
Viktor held her fast in the dark, his hands tracing the lines of her body with the fierce obsession of a man claiming his final prize.
