"Mafia Boss, Your Toddler is Here for Child Support!" Chapter 10 — MR. FLUFFINGTON'S VERDICT
Victoria entered the foyer at 1:41 a.m. with rain shining on her cream-colored coat.
She stopped when she saw Dante waiting beside the staircase. Luca stood behind him. Two guards flanked the entrance.
"Darling," she said, instantly softening her voice. "I heard there was trouble. I came to help."
"At one forty-one in the morning?"
"Your security chief wouldn't answer my calls."
"Because I told him not to."
Victoria's smile tightened. "Dante, we need to talk privately."
"We are talking."
He held up a phone. On its screen was the payment record from the intruders.
"Three men came into my daughter's corridor tonight. They were paid through a Vance shell company."
Victoria glanced at the screen. It was a quick movement, but Dante saw it.
"My father's company has thousands of transactions," she said. "Anyone could have—"
"They wanted the rabbit."
For the first time, her expression slipped completely.
"What rabbit?"
A small voice answered from the stairs.
"This one."
Lily stood on the landing, Mr. Fluffington clutched to her chest. She had escaped the guest room where a guard had briefly taken her while Dante confronted Victoria.
Dante's heart lurched. "Lily, stay there."
Victoria stared at the toy. Her eyes widened with naked hunger.
"Give that to me," she snapped.
Lily took one step backward. "No, snake lady."
Victoria's face reddened. "You miserable little—"
"Enough," Dante said.
But Victoria was already moving toward the stairs.
Dante crossed the foyer in a blur, placing himself between them. When Victoria reached past him toward Lily, he caught her wrist and forced her hand away. She cried out, more from shock than pain.
"Do not touch my daughter."
"Your daughter?" Victoria laughed wildly. "You think that child is some miracle? Elena planned all of this!"
"Then tell me what happened four years ago."
"She betrayed you!"
"The evidence was fabricated."
Victoria's breathing quickened. "You can't prove that."
Lily squeezed the rabbit's stomach.
A soft electronic chime sounded.
Then Elena Bennett's voice filled the foyer.
"Dante, if this recording reaches you, the Vance files are inside Fluffington's memory. I hid copies in the toy because I knew Victoria would search my computers. Don't trust the accusations. Check the original timestamps."
Victoria lunged toward the rabbit.
Dante blocked her again.
"You don't understand!" she screamed. "She was going to destroy everything!"
"What did she discover?" Dante demanded.
Victoria's composure finally broke.
"I forged the evidence that Elena betrayed your family! I made you believe she sold your secrets, and you believed me!" Her voice rose to a shriek. "I had her taken away when she came back with proof. That woman should have disappeared forever! And now this child—"
She stopped.
The foyer was silent.
Luca slowly lifted the phone in his hand. The recording indicator glowed red.
Victoria stared at it.
"You recorded me?"
"Every word," Luca said.
Lily looked at her rabbit. "Mr. Fluffington remembers too."

Victoria tried to run. The guards intercepted her at the door.
"You can't do this! My father will ruin you!"
Dante's voice was colder than the rain outside.
"Your father can explain his companies to federal investigators. You can explain what you did to Elena."
Victoria struggled against the guards. "She'll never come back to you!"
Dante didn't answer.
He was looking at the rabbit.
Luca carefully connected its hidden memory module to an isolated laptop, following instructions Elena had stored on a paper label inside the lining. The device held encrypted audio, video, and financial records, as well as an access key for a protected archive.
Marcus worked through the files with a forensic specialist on a secure line. They found the original transfer logs that Victoria had altered, messages arranging Elena's abduction, and records of payments to a private medical facility.
One file contained a video of Elena speaking directly to the camera.
She looked exhausted, but her eyes were fierce.
"Dante, I never betrayed you. Victoria's people used my credentials to create false transfers. When I found the proof, they threatened me. I disappeared because I was pregnant and didn't know who I could trust."
Dante braced one hand against the desk.
Elena continued.
"If Lily gets to you, it means I couldn't keep us safe on my own. Please don't punish her for what happened between us. She is the best thing I have ever made."
Lily pressed her face into Dante's side.
"Mommy's sad," she whispered.
Dante crouched and wrapped his arms around her.
"I know."
The next file revealed the location of the clinic where Elena had been held. Marcus contacted a federal investigator who had already been reviewing Vance Holdings for financial crimes. The investigator arranged a warrant and a medical team, while Dante supplied the newly recovered evidence.
By dawn, the clinic had been secured.
Elena was alive.
Weak, dehydrated, and recovering from injuries sustained while trying to escape, but alive.
Dante stood in the hospital corridor when the physician emerged.
"She's stable," the doctor said. "She'll need rest, but she can have a short visitor."
Dante entered the room alone.
Elena lay against white pillows. Her hair was shorter. Her face was thinner. But when she turned toward him, the same brown eyes met his.
"Dante."
He stopped beside the bed.
For once, he had no orders to give.
"I should have believed you," he said.
Elena watched him carefully. "Yes. You should have."
The words hurt because they were true.
"I won't ask you to forgive me tonight."
"Good," she whispered. "Because I can't. Not yet."
He nodded. "Lily is safe."
Tears gathered in her eyes. "She found you?"
"She shut down my security system, presented me with a billion-dollar invoice, and electrocuted one of my guards."
Elena stared.
Then she began to laugh.
It was a fragile laugh, interrupted by tears.
"That sounds like my girl."
Dante pulled a chair beside the bed. "She wants to see you."
"I want to see her too."
He took Elena's hand only after she offered it.
Outside, Luca received a call from the federal investigator.
Victoria had been taken into custody. Her father's offices were being searched. The evidence was sufficient to begin dismantling the operation that had hidden Elena for years.
Luca exhaled in relief.
Then a nurse approached with a tiny visitor in a yellow cardigan.
Lily spotted the woman through the open hospital door.
"MOMMY!"
She ran.
Dante turned just in time to catch the little girl before she crashed into Elena's injured side.
"Easy, princess," he murmured. "Gentle hugs."
Lily climbed carefully onto the bed.
Elena wrapped her arms around her daughter.
For a long moment, neither spoke.
Then Lily looked over her shoulder at Dante.
"Daddy?"
"Yes?"
"You found her."
He nodded.
Lily smiled through her tears.
"Good. Now you can pay the bill."
