"All Five of My Roommates Want Me" Chapter 11 — All Five, Fully Awake
Three months later, Jamie photographed the cover of Aperture magazine.
Adrian Vale no longer owned any part of it. His arrest prompted four other men to come forward, and the company board removed him before trial. Jamie refused the job Adrian had offered and negotiated an independent contract on his own terms.
The cover image showed five men standing beneath a broken hotel sign, each facing a different direction while morning light entered behind them.
Nobody outside Apartment 6B understood the private joke.
At home, the third floor had become organized chaos.
Jamie’s studio occupied the brightest room. Ethan paid for archival cabinets only after everyone approved the expense. Lucas installed security that could not monitor private bedrooms. Caleb stocked a shared medical drawer with fewer supplies than he wanted. Mason added a small kitchen. Noah added gym equipment nobody requested.
They kept six bedrooms.
They rarely used them as expected.
Monday belonged to individual plans. Tuesday was shared dinner. Wednesday rotated dates. Thursday was deliberately unscheduled. Friday required a household meeting before anyone opened wine.
Their relationship remained imperfect.
Ethan still became quiet when Jamie spent the night with someone else. Noah occasionally turned jealousy into a joke sharp enough to hurt. Mason overextended himself. Caleb tried to solve feelings. Lucas disappeared into work when overwhelmed.
Jamie made mistakes too.
He sometimes enjoyed being wanted so much that he avoided making decisions. He sometimes offered affection to end conflict rather than because he desired it. The first time Caleb noticed, he stopped Jamie in the middle of a kiss.
“You don’t owe us reassurance with your body,” Caleb said.
That sentence became another house rule.
On the night Adrian accepted a plea agreement, they returned to the Halcyon.
Jamie had requested the same private lounge.
The staff had changed. The security system had changed. Room 1708 remained closed for renovation.
Jamie stood before the five men in a black suit and no tie.
“This is either therapeutic exposure or an expensive mistake,” Noah said.
“Both,” Mason suggested.
Jamie placed six glasses of sparkling water on the table.
“The last time we were here, I made a game because I was afraid to ask for what I wanted directly.”
Ethan watched him with the same controlled intensity that had once made Jamie nervous.
Now it made him feel known.
“Tonight there is no game,” Jamie continued. “No missing memory. No mystery.”
He approached Ethan first.
“May I kiss you?”
Ethan’s expression softened. “Yes.”
Jamie kissed him, slow enough to feel Ethan surrender control rather than lose it.
He went to Noah next.
Noah placed both hands visibly at his sides. “Tell me where.”
Jamie guided them to his waist. “Here.”
Noah kissed him with warmth and laughter, lifting him half an inch before Jamie told him to behave.
Mason waited near the dessert table.
Jamie brushed a streak of chocolate across Mason’s lower lip and kissed it away.

“Better than burnt pasta,” he whispered.
Mason laughed against his mouth.
Caleb offered his wrist in a reversal of their first intimate moment.
Jamie kissed Caleb’s pulse, then pulled him down for a real kiss when the doctor’s composure finally cracked.
Lucas stood beside the window, in the same place he had occupied that first night.
Jamie turned his back and swept aside his hair.
“The place nobody else would dare?” Lucas asked.
“The place you always ask for.”
Lucas kissed his nape.
Then Jamie turned and kissed him fully, with the city shining behind them.
No camera recorded it.
No proof was necessary.
They returned home before midnight.
In the living room, attraction gathered through glances and careful touches. Ethan’s fingers rested beneath Jamie’s chin. Noah’s hand warmed his waist. Mason stood close behind him. Caleb asked one final time whether Jamie felt clear and certain. Lucas waited for the answer.
Jamie looked at all five men.
“Yes,” he said. “I want this.”
The bedroom door closed on laughter, negotiation, and five voices still asking rather than assuming.
Morning arrived without fear.
Jamie woke in the center of an enormous bed, fully aware of where he was and who surrounded him. Ethan slept on one side, his hand open on the pillow rather than holding Jamie in place. Noah had stolen most of the blanket. Mason was already gone, judging by the smell of coffee. Caleb slept with impossible neatness. Lucas occupied the foot of the bed with a laptop balanced on his knees.
“You’re working?” Jamie asked.
“I’m ordering blackout curtains.”
“Unfortunate choice of terminology.”
Lucas almost smiled.
Downstairs, Mason had made pancakes. Noah arrived wearing Jamie’s sweatshirt. Caleb checked the bruise Noah had acquired by walking into the bedframe. Ethan entered last, dressed for court, and kissed Jamie only after receiving a sleepy nod.
The kitchen became noisy.
Noah accused Ethan of stealing the first kiss of the morning. Mason demanded everyone sit before the food cooled. Caleb warned them about syrup intake. Lucas silently moved Jamie’s coffee away from Noah’s elbow.
Jamie looked around the table.
For years, he had believed love should arrive in one recognizable shape. One person. One answer. One clean future.
Instead, it had arrived as five men arguing over pancakes.
It required calendars, boundaries, apologies, medical testing, difficult honesty, and more patience than any of them naturally possessed.
It also gave Jamie five hands reaching for him—and stopping until he chose which ones to take.
He took all five.
“What?” Ethan asked when he noticed Jamie smiling.
Jamie remembered waking alone in Room 1708, terrified of the night he had lost.
Then he looked at the men he had chosen in daylight.
“Nothing,” he said. “I just like knowing exactly what happened last night.”
Noah grinned. Mason threw a napkin at him. Caleb sighed. Lucas looked away to hide a smile. Ethan leaned across the table and kissed Jamie’s forehead.

That night, Jamie had chosen all five of them.
This time, he remembered every second.
Later that afternoon, they met with a counselor experienced in consensual nonmonogamy. Nobody enjoyed being told that love did not automatically create communication skills. Everybody returned the following week.
Months passed without becoming simple.
Noah grew jealous when Jamie and Ethan attended a formal gala. Ethan sulked after Jamie and Mason spent an entire Sunday cooking. Caleb once canceled a date because exhaustion made him emotionally unavailable. Lucas needed practice saying when he wanted affection instead of silently offering protection.
They repaired each rupture with the same rules they had built in crisis: say the real thing, ask instead of assume, and treat no as information rather than rejection.
Jamie testified at Adrian’s trial alongside Daniel and two other survivors. His roommates sat in the back row, separated enough that he could see each face. None tried to speak for him.
Adrian was convicted.
Outside the courthouse, a reporter shouted, “Which one is your boyfriend?”
Jamie paused on the steps.
Five men waited behind him, prepared to accept silence, secrecy, or truth.
Jamie smiled. “That’s a badly limited question.”
He walked away before the reporter recovered.
That evening, their renovated dining table held six keys in a shallow blue bowl. Not symbols of ownership. Not prizes. Invitations that could be returned at any time.
Jamie picked up his key, then looked around at the home they were still learning to share.
“Movie?” Mason asked.
“My room?” Noah suggested.
“Too small,” Ethan said.
Lucas studied the sectional sofa. “Statistically, the living room creates the fewest territorial disputes.”
Caleb laughed. “That may be the most romantic sentence you’ve ever spoken.”
Jamie switched off the kitchen light and let them argue.
He remembered every choice that brought him into the room.
Most importantly, he knew he could keep choosing tomorrow.
